“We need to keep the national dialogue focused on police violence and reform. We must counteract the prevailing public opinion that keeps police beyond scrutiny and that excuses and justifies whatever they do. We must make society rethink its approach to policing and we must demand policing that takes seriously the principle that all people are created equal. That’s why groups like Blackout for Human Rights and events like the Blackout Music & Film Festival are so important – to provide a space and a community for people to dissent, to speak up, and to speak out against what’s happening. That’s why the ACLU of Southern California is proud to participate and promote MobileJustice, so people can know and exercise their rights, including the right to record police encounters. So, let’s stand for justice. Let’s speak out. And let’s get to work on reforming the police. Start by joining us at the first annual Blackout Music & Film Festival, Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at The GRAMMY Museum in Downtown Los Angeles, where we and Black Lives Matter will be hosting a panel discussion on social justice” Continue Reading Hector Villagra, Executive Director of the ACLU of Southern California’s Article on The Huffington Post: http://huff.to/1EDLr7k

Listen, if you sit back and do nothing as something happens that you can prevent, you are part of the problem. Don’t fall victim to the bystander effect, don’t think someone else will do something. NEVER give excuses for other complicit people. Do what is right, not what is expected of you, understand?

When you’re going through something difficult, keeping it to yourself is not the answer. Hear from Missy Franklin, Jason Collins, Kenny Ortega and more why today’s #MonthOfAction challenge is Let It Out. http://bit.ly/MOA-18

Challenge 18 with Crisis Text Line = Let It Out! Got something stressful on your mind? Today’s the day to ask for help. Talk about how you’re feeling with a friend, sibling, parent, or whoever you can count on to listen. Then give a #MonthOfAction shout-out to someone who’s been there for you when you needed it. http://bit.ly/MonthOfAction_18

FREE PALESTINE

Educate yourself on what’s happening right now. Having well formed opinions on relevant topics matters more than you may think.

Israel is not a country, there are no “struggles on both sides”. This is not anti-semitism, an actual genocide is currently taking place and defending Palestine and it’s people should not a controversial topic.

These people make me ashamed to be human. Be better, if this is our version of a advanced society, I can only apprehend what could come next. Please educate yourself and your loved ones, this is inadmissible.

Destiny Lopez, Co-Director of All* Above All, issued the following statement in response to President-Elect Donald Trump’s announcement that his nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services will be Representative Tom Price (R-GA).

“Price has voted for extreme bans on abortion care and coverage and vowed to end Obamacare. This nomination is yet another signal that Trump plans to make good on his promise to repeal Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, and punish women who have abortions by making the Hyde Amendment permanent. Trump has no mandate to take away women’s basic rights and we plan to fight these heinous proposals every step of the way.”
