Allura, texting Lance: Lotor’s in the hospital, I hope he gets better
Lance: i hope he does
Lance: sry autocorrect *dies
Okay so with the whole meltdown in the Klance shipdom with Jeremy’s recent interview with Shamus Kelley on Den of Geek (p.s. Don’t hate on my boy), I just wanted to throw my hand in the ring and say a couple things. Mostly revolving around this evidence:
This is a little known interview done with Kimberly Brooks, Josh Keaton and AJ Locasio at NYCC this year. There is just one part that I want to address which comes right at the end of the interview. This is Kimberly Brooks talking about what she wanted to see for Allura. I found the answer fascinating and, I thought it actually strengthened Klance a lot.
Because her answer is this (and I quote):
“A little love interest stuff with Allura I think would be a good thing to explore, I mean she young, she’s probably romantic and back before all this - her whole planet was destroyed - you know, she was just a princess and she probably had suitors and was going to, I don’t know, balls and just having fun and I wish that, you know, she could have that, we could visit that instead of just all of this fighting war stuff”
This, to me, says that Allura does not see any character in any kind of romantic light, Lance completely included. I actually think that this is pretty telling because, out of all of the things she wanted for an episode she thought of romance for Allura as being an aspect that hasn’t been explored. That, for me, says romance, Lance included, is just not on Allura’s radar.
And quite rightly. Just as Kimberly said they’re fighting a war, she doesn’t have time for romance as a princess with a duty to save the whole universe! And do you really think, after all the fighting is over, she will have time for romance as a queen who seeks to help civilisations across hundreds if not thousands of planets? I don’t think so.
I actually think that everyone is trying to throw us of the Klance trail by suggesting Allurance. It’s interesting because I believe this same method is actually being used in the show.
In my opinion, I think Allura is very reminicent of Elizabeth I of England (forgive me for my british comparisions, I’m english.) who was a woman who gave everything to her country and to her people, she refused to marry as she did not want England being passed into foreign hands, she put her country ahead of her love life and what happened? She ushered in England’s Golden Age. She was even known to join her men in battle, just like Allura. She gave her all to her country, just as I think Allura would do for her people, and Allura has a lot more people to look after than just a single country. She is the epitome of a strong, independant woman and, to an extent, romance would only drag her down.
Additionally, going back to Jeremy’s interview where he said that Lance ‘wouldn’t know what to do’ when it came to his affections being reciprocated, I think that he probably purposefully seeks out people to like who he thinks he has no chance with. I say this purely because I’ve been known to do the same thing; It’s all fun when it’s crushes and flirting but as soon as you know they like you back, I freak out and bail. For Lance, liking Allura is safe because she probably wont like him back, but the idea of her is a huge ego boost for him.
So, sorry Allurance shippers, but Jeremy Shada has had to sign a few NDA’s before. This interview was done for a written article this means we don’t get the audio. Jeremy knew going in the kind of questions he would be asked, and he probably took long pauses before answering questions to articulate himself when it came to things that teased at the edges of the NDA. Also he doesn’t want to ruin the ending of the show for fans. It’s like everyone forget’s how big Adventure Time is and how Jeremy is the voice actor for main character of that show! He’s used to working around NDA’s, he’s used to throwing off fans and having a bit of fun with what he chooses to reveal.
I recommend watching the interview as there are a few other fun bits in there, plus you can make your own mind up after watching it.
It has to be done.
