I’ve had two great years (2015-2017) with a New York magazine @w42st designing their monthly #infographic about NY culture. I loved challenging myself every time to create something new - color wise, #illustration wise, style wise, #typography wise…All drawn by hand in Adobe Illustrator and then put together in Adobe Photoshop. I loved the freedom the Editor in Chief, amazing Ruth Walker, was giving me to explore whatever inspired me at the moment. Of course, I took a lot of inspiration from #NYC itself, especially from #HellsKitchen where I lived at that time. I had someone recently wanting to buy the whole collection ❤️ and #Uber office contacted me in 2017 and commissioned me to make an oversized poster for their office based on my infographic dedicated to #HudsonYards featuring the old and new #landmarks of the area. Many other great things came out of this experience - including illustrating a few film posters and book covers. #w42st #graphicdesign #illustration #design #work #portfolio #infographics #infographic #datavisualization #newyork #newyorkcity #hellskitchen #holidays #landmarks #history #facts #funfacts #alisakrutovsky #adobeillustrator #adobephotoshop #adobe #arts #theatre #culture #food (at New York, New York)

ul. Basztowa
foto z 12 czerwca i 18 lipca 2017 oraz 20 sierpnia 2018

Mural namalowany w czerwcu 2012 r. przedstawiał historyczne obiekty Tarnowa - herb Leliwa, ratusz, katedrę mariacką, mauzoleum Józefa Bema, dworzec kolejowy i samą uliczkę, w której się znajdował. W 2019 r. ściana została zburzona wraz z całą stuletnią kamieniczką, by odsłonić fragment średniowiecznych murów miejskich i renesansową basztę, od której zaułek wziął nazwę.

HAPPY WORLD HERITAGE DAY! :)

Tarnów, Poland
Basztowa St.
taken on 12 June and 18 July 2017, and 20 August 2018

Mural made in June 2012 presented historical landmarks of Tarnów - Leliwa coat of arms, the Town Hall, St. Mary’s cathedral, the mausoleum of Józef Bem, the railway station, and the alley itself the mural was situated in. In 2019 the wall was demolished together with the whole hundred years old house in order to display a piece of the town’s medieval walls and a Renaissance tower the alley had taken its name after (Pol. baszta = fortified tower).

Disclaimer: I am not the author of the art itself; I own only the photo.

Lwy przed frontowym portalem pochodzą z bramy pałacu rodu Morstinów w Pławowicach. Posągi, wykonane prawdopodobnie na początku XIX w., zostały przeniesione do Krakowa w 1964 r.

Lions at the main portal came from the gate of the Morstin Palace in Pławowice. The statues were made probably in the early 19th c. and moved to Kraków in 1964.

As you may already have heard by now, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to move two neoned structures forward to be considered for landmark status: the enormous Pepsi sign, on the Queens waterfront in Long Island City and the Harlem YMCA. The final vote has not yet taken place, and, as the New York Neon blog points out, how much protection the landmark designation provides for the neon itself isn’t clear, but it’s certainly a step forward for New York’s neon. (I was sad to see some of the buildings rejected from projection, though, especially the lovely Coney Island pumping station). Here’s hoping both the YMCA and the Pepsi sign receive final landmark designation soon!

Apologies for the dearth of posts lately, but I am working on a few updates to the New York neon map. Any updates that you know about (major neon signs worth a visit, things on the map that have vanished), please let me know!

Clever Paper Cutouts by Paperboyo Transform Architecture and Landmarks into Amusing Scenes

Rich McCor (aka Paperboyo) has a way of imagining the potential for quirkiness and whimsy in existing architecture. Using tourist attractions, landmarks, and urban settings as his backdrops, the Brighton-based artist and photographer (previously) dreams up amusing scenes that he fashions with precise angles and black paper cutouts.
