Working for the knife but by knife i mean a scalpel
Bender-scope
The microscopes of the future are all surly and a little bit hungover.
Current mood: “Bite my shiny metal a$$“
Just like me on a Friday in clinic as a third year medical student.
Correcting Misconceptions
- A fever does not mean your illness is bacterial. It just means your body is fighting the illness.
- The color of your snot is not an indicator of bacterial or viral illness.
- Coughing up mucus does not necessarily mean your cold is “in your chest.” It may still be coming from your throat or sinuses.
- Antibiotic and steroid shots are rarely better than their oral counterparts. The fact that you think they work faster is placebo effect.
- You do not get the flu from your flu shot any more than you can start laying eggs after eating chicken nuggets.
- A temperature of 99.9 is not a fever. And furthermore, when did the back of mom’s hand start reading exact temperature values? How can you know the temp was 102.5 if you don’t have a thermometer?
- Toddlers are sick almost as often as they are well. They catch almost every new virus they encounter. Your kid’s one ear infection and constant runny nose does not mean they have a terrible immune deficiency. It more likely means they’re just new and haven’t met all the viruses around them yet.
OH MAN THE CHICKEN NUGGETS LINE.
Wanna know a secret?
…there are actual medical students in my class that believe you can get the flu from the flu shot…

Haven’t been here for a while now. Just a quick update: I spent the last 2 months preparing for the licensure exam. I built a study routine and I’ve been studying every day ever since. It hasn’t been easy. I don’t even know what’s after this, but I’ll just try to go through it one day at a time.
I’ve been more active in my study account in instagram. It has been amazing and I’ve found a lot of support from people everywhere. Although, I have to admit that Tumblr still feels very special to me as it contains the rest of my journey from high school to med school. This is still my safe space, and I’m glad I still have this to voice out my thoughts freely.
How is everyone? I hope you are all doing okay

Keeping this drive despite the uncertainties of the future. I don’t know when I will become a doctor, but I’ll just try everyday to work towards that.
