Space Wolves can read. Yes, all of them. Even the serfs. For real.
The term “Fenrisian Runes” should be proof enough of a written language (or that Russ wrote books). Or is Lorgar now also illiterate because he uses “Colchisian Runes”? And even if then comes “but, but not a letter/syllabary like High Gothic!” …. Prospero has hieroglyphics. Does that mean Magnus has also lost the ability to read?
And even if you twist and turn - it’s impossible to lead a fleet of monstrous warships in coordination with each other and the fleets of the other Primarchs through a galaxy-wide crusade without being able to read! Hololithe. Cogitors. Anything supplied by the Mechanicum. The cockpit of any transport or fighter. Simply everything is inscribed and needs writing. How would illiterate Astartes solve this? Behind every fighter pilot a serf who dances the labels of the icons to him? Must all communication be verbal? Or everything with battle signs? And even if Space Wolves avoid wearing helmets whenever possible - they make use of the HUD. And I highly doubt they have the audiobook-version of the Mark IV-helmet, that reads everything to them.
Ah, Occam’s Razor and all that.
Yeah, that were a lot of words for “I’m a hypocrite and draw what I want but I get mad at people inventing illiterate Space Wolves”.

Wanted to play with different easy and quick battle damage methods a while back so I picked up a leman Russ kit (because I can never have too many…). I decided to go with a demolisher since out of any of the variants I felt they would be the most up close and personal.
Then I got carried away haha. I raised my bits box for any little thing I could throw on there. It was then that j discovered that the bullgryn kit is amazing for dressing up tanks. The slab shields sit on the outside of the sponsons perfectly, the combat shields work well on the side of the turret, the tank treads on the armor can be cut off and added, there are tons of shells and gas cans, etc etc. Then I just did some simple bullet holes and heat singes etc to play with the painting. Result is above.

Painting this may be difficult, but it’s an incredibly satisfying journey. It all started when Forge World release the miniature for Leman Russ, and I immediately fell in love with it. I like the fact that Russ is not old looking warrior with thick beard, but a handsome rugged savage hero that I always dreamed of, as depicted in the Forge World art and mini.
The process was difficult because there is no one consistent design on him. Every art sport a different design, different sword, different axe. And the angle of his posture is pretty difficult to translate in 2d space. Nevertheless, I’ll elaborate about the journey daunting process in another post. Right now, just enjoy this awesome image of the Wolf King. I dare say it’s the most handsome version of Russ you’ve seen so far.
