fr do think that colress is a supremely interesting character archetype because he’s just so detached from everything. like he’s not even “morally grey” it’s just an absence of morality entirely. he’ll do anything and everything “good” or “evil” bc he doesn’t give a shit as long as he can make his dangerous contraptions and evil devices and conduct his unethical experimence. he has no personal stake in anything he’s ever done. he was lying when he said he regretted team plasma but he was lying when he said he always hated ghetsis because he never cared about any of it one way or the other. he doesn’t care about money or power and control or personal gain. he didn’t care about stopping rainbow rocket he did that because he wanted to test his stupid invisibility apple watch and to see how the ultra wormholes worked. he loved every second of freezing opelucid with a death laser not because he believed in team plasma’s ideals but because he’s loyal to one thing and it’s the pursuit of scientific discovery. he’s a selfish little freak and it’s literally so awesome
at this point in his career, I think directors just give Ryan Reynolds the plot to a movie and he just makes up the dialogue as he goes bc there is no way any of the shit he says in his movies is planned and not just him saying whatever he thinks would make the movie go on
the kicker is he was being asked if his work was coming from the approach of man vs. nature aka “THE ENVIRONMENT STRIKES BACK” but no. his literal words were along the lines of “sharks are not very scary if you are never in the water so i had to make them scarier, and now they have legs.”
Junji Ito has the best fucking take on horror, which is ‘wouldn’t that be weird’ and then he draws it into the most terrifying thing possible.
