#mdzs novel
It’s interesting to me that when Wei Wuxian comes back to life Lan Wangji is known for his compassion and Jiang Wanyin is known for his cruelty.
But the reason it’s interesting to me is because after Wei Wuxian’s death Jiang Wanyin should be all set up to be the hero of the cultivation world that took down the vile Yiling Patriarch and yet when Wei Wuxian comes back Jiang Wanyin doesn’t seem to be respected as much as he is feared and disliked by others.
And then you have Lan Wangji who was completely absent from the siege and even tried to save Wei Wuxian after Nightless City (though I don’t think this was widely known) and yet he is highly respected by cultivators and civilians alike.
And this is because more than that one moment it was actions they took day after day, year after year, that formed the public’s opinion of them. Jiang Wanyin, more focused on torturing demonic cultivators than saving people; and Lan Wangji, who was known for caring little about fame and taking even small night hunts with little reward.
Another thing I’ve been thinking about is how Jiang Wanyin is contrasted with Jin Guangyao.
Now Jiang Wanyin wasn’t actually the one that killed Wei Wuxian but it’s pretty widely rumored that he did. And then you have Jin Guangyao who assassinated Wen Ruohan. Technically by looking at these two moments they should be on the same pedestal but again, the way they’re treated is vastly different.
Similar Lan Wangji, Jin Guangyao is highly respected in the cultivation world as the chief cultivator. But this is because Jin Guangyao put constant effort into maintaining his image and keeping his misdeeds beneath surface. He’s a loving husband, a sworn brother to Zewu-Jun and Chifeng-zun, a competent and kind Chief Cultivator that beat all the odds and rose above his station.
Of course, almost all these things hide horrible secrets beneath the surface but the lie is pretty while it lasts.
And then you Jiang Wanyin who doesn’t seem to care for maintaining his image at all to the point that civilians could hear the screams of his victims coming from Lotus Pier and know Jiang Wanyin won’t take a night hunt unless there’s already been a death.
Despite their similarities and positions of power their reputations are vastly different due to how they handle public relations.
It’s interesting to me that when Wei Wuxian comes back to life Lan Wangji is known for his compassion and Jiang Wanyin is known for his cruelty.

Thinking about how Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning became friends is wild.
Because it’s like: Yeah I only met Wei Wuxian once before but he was nice and my sect was being a massive dick so after the Massacre at Lotus Pier I decided to shelter him from them. :) He almost killed before he realized I was trying to help but don’t worry it all worked out! And then my sister and I helped him remove his golden core to replace his martial brother’s. So that was slightly upsetting. And then, you know, he eventually goes on to fight in the war and murder a ton of my sect members but they were dicks so it’s cool. :) And then after the Wen Sect lost the Jin Sect captured me and put me in a labor camp. That was how I died btw. Oh, but don’t worry! Wei Wuxian brought me back to life and freed the rest of my relatives so after that we were BFF’s. :) :) :)
Absolutely fucking wild.
Do you think the Juniors ever get to hear the (slightly edited) version of how their friendship came to be and just spend like 10 minutes staring into the campfire internally going ‘WTF’.

MDZS translation by dragongirlG: ch 100 - wangxian in Guanyin Temple
Happy almost-Valentine’s Day and almost-Lantern Festival 2022! I’m super excited to share my fan translation of MDZS chapter 100, featuring Wei Wuxian’s famous love confession to Lan Wangji. As with chapter 1, I included footnotes with my notes and references, and a preface with my translation goals.
Reblogs and positive feedback are always appreciated!

Happy thirsty Thursday or filthy Friday depending on your region of the world! It’s the end of the month, which means it’s time for another translation challenge! In light of the fandom’s celebration of the manhua’s uncensored bathtub panels, I decided to translate the scene immediately following wangxian’s bathtub breakage. This doesn’t get very explicit—it’s just leading up to that!
Please go check out maotuanxjj’s uncensored panels of this scene here on Twitter and give them some appreciation!
Full credit to my translator friends for strongly encouraging me (read: enthusiastically screaming at me) to use this passage for this month’s challenge. Reblogs and signal boosts are always appreciated!
As always, you are welcome to participate in any translation challenge at any time. You can find a compilation on twitter or at the bottom of the pinned post on tumblr.

Here is a list of the translations into English of 魔道祖师 (Módào Zǔshī) by 墨香铜臭 (Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù). The novel is 113 chapters and 14 extras (13 on JJWXC plus another extra only present in the Taiwanese published version). This list was updated 2022/06/01.
I am not listing MTL or cleaned MTL translations. For the extras I am listing by chapter every translation, but for the novel I’m only providing links to masterposts / websites / folders.
If you are aware of other translations, let me know and I’ll update this post.
December 2021 update: I think at this point everyone in the fandom is aware that an official translation is being published in English. This masterlist keep the links to the once existing fantranslations, for fandom memory.
