#melusine
The Starbucks sign is seen to be based around Melusine. Melusine was said to be the daughter of the king of Scotland and a fairy. Melusine entombed her father which in turn enraged her mother, who cursed her to transform into a serpent from the waist down every saturday(Some legends say fish with two tails). She meets Raymond, Lord of Forez in Poitou, it said that she was wearing a flowy white dress and had glimmering golden hair. He falls in love with her, Melusine agrees to marry him but only if he agrees to not see her on saturdays. She had 10 sons with Raymond, some becoming kings and other tyrants; she also helped the region of Poitou to flourish under her direction. Raymond begins to believe that Melusine is being unfaithful and one saturday spies on her, seeing her turn into a serpent he bursts through the door and accuses her of causing his sons to be cursed with her affliction, as some of the sons in the legends had deformities. Melusine distraught flies from the castle wailing, her wails could be heard across the land. In the legend it’s said that she would come back at night to visit her sons but ultimately would stay away from the castle during the day, never to be seen by Raymond again. The two tailed mermaid in the Starbucks sign is believed to have come from the story of Melusine, the version in which she has two tails.
