Oh yeah. That’s Josephine Baker dancing on top of a piano while the musicians cluster below, and the Eiffel Tower itself swings in syncopation. Classic Paul Colin, it’s also got a little bit of Chagall in it, n'est ce pas? An absolute treasure of the Jazz Age.
This vacation was such a regeneration. I’m definitely in love with Paris and it’s magic atmosphere. Now I’m ready to go back to study for this new semester
Another Amelie film still! Young Amelie getting revenge on her neighbour. I’m trying to make myself work on backgrounds… I’ve always been pretty lazy with them and I’m finally realising how important (and beautiful) they are. Using film stills is helping me to learn foreground, middle-ground and background in a really curated, straightforward way :-)
An invitation card depicting “Le Chat Blanc” (white cat). It echoes Théophile Steinlen’s 1896 poster advertising the “Chat Noir” tour. It’s part of the estate of French writer Paul Jeanne. Paul Jeanne often spent time in Rodolphe Salis’s “Le Chat Noir”, a famous cabaret located in Montmartre, the bohemian distict of Paris.
