LIVE

In light of recent event I want to revisit my first Tumblr post. My first post was about St. Catherine Drexel. An American nun who stood up against Rascism for Black and Indegious people, She used the privilege she had as a wealthy, white woman to provide education for Black and Indegious children during the 1850s. When the Ku Klux Klan threatened to lynch her, the children in her care, and her fellow parishioners she stood firm against them.

Her story is a happy one, because she turned and prayed to to God for guidance. The next day a tornado came and destroyed the KKK headquarters killing two Klan members. They never bother her or her school again.

God is with us all. Whether he sends a tornado to wipe out the enemy, or his spirit to face certain and possibly painful death. We need to stand up for what is right no matter what.

God bless, and good luck.

NOVEMBER 30 - LYDIA MARIA CHILD

Remembered for penning the popular children’s poem “Over the River and Through the Wood”, Lydia Maria Child often shocked audiences from the 1830s to the 1960s with her extremely liberal views. She called for the emancipation of slaves without any compensation to slaveholders, believing that women could not make significant progress in their rights until slavery was abolished.

Child’s 1833 work An Appeal in Favor of That Class of Americans Called Africans is said to be the first anti-slavery book published in the United States. She also wrote fictional short stories in support of her anti-slavery beliefs, often exploring how sexual exploitation affected both the enslaved and the slaveholder’s family. The more she delved into these concepts, the more negative reactions she received from readers.

This was not, however, Child’s first taste of controversy. In the mid-1820s, she published a historical romance novel entitled Hobomok: A Tale of Early Times, writing under the anonymous pseudonym “an American”. The book caused quite a stir in the literary community due to its central relationship - an interracial marriage between a white woman and a Native American man.

Decades later, Child would publicly endorse Native American rights, compiling various pamphlets throughout the 1860s. One of her pieces, An Appeal for the Indians, called upon government officials and religious leaders to make a difference, leading to the establishment of the US Board of Indian Commissioners in 1869.

WHAT HAPPENED:

This is not surprising as Trump holds stock in Energy Transfer Partners, the same company that is building the Dakota Access Pipeline according to Fortune.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

  • The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s water supply may be heavily compromised if the pipeline would ever leak.

As environmentalist Bill McKibben noted in the New Yorker, the pipeline was originally slated to cross the Missouri River not far from North Dakota’s capital city of Bismarck, but the route was changed partly due to concerns about the potential contamination of the capitol’s drinking water in the event of a leak or spill. The pipeline is now set to run half a mile from the Sioux reservation near its water supply, Lake Oahe. (x)

  • The construction of the pipeline is expected to disrupt the tribe’s sacred burial grounds and other historically significant sites.
  • In a broader perspective, the environment would suffer extreme consequences as it will fuel climate change.

Not only is it infringing on Native American rights but this pipeline will quicken the demise of Planet Earth. This is bigger than politics.

Just me crying in the bathroom so I don’t wake my partners with this, fuck.

So to sum up: CT and DC have passed laws making it illegal to extradite someone to another state if they are being charged in that other state for crimes pertaining to abortion or trans health care, and makes it legal to sue and get your money back if you are targeted by a TX-style “bounty” law. DC also includes “crimes” of consensual adult sex, gay and interracial marriage and cohabitation and providing or using contraception.

This is, as the thread explains, basically legal interstate warfare. CT and DC’s laws bar compliance with such laws.

This is, on one hand, kind of terrifying, because this is where we are now. It’s going to get worse long before it gets better.

On the other hand… holy shit, someone fucking did something.

Someone fucking did something real.

Okay folx so… this kind of tags has been fairly common on this post.

I’m glad people are checking, but! If you didn’t know, this is what it looks like now if you post a link to Twitter on Tumblr. And!

a screenshot of this post with "view on Twitter" highlighted, it appears right under the text of the tweet itself

If you click/tap on the highlighted bit, it goes to the thread on Twitter, which contains screenshots of the amendment’s text and a link to the full amendment text on the official CT.gov site.

Here are the screenshots of CT’s amendment. The important stuff in the 2nd screenshot is what’s underlined. There is too much text for alt text, it’s on the link above, but the tl;dr is “it covers abortion and gender-affirming health care.” It has been passed and signed by the Governor as detailed on the ct.gov link:

a screenshot of the CT amendment, which is explained and linked above. it won't fit in alt text.
another screenshot of the law, which is linked and explained above.
a screenshot of the CT.gov page linked above showing the governor signed this amendment on May 7th

Here’sa link to the press release when the DC bill was introduced from the Twitter thread linked above. Here is a link to an article about it. It appears that this is currently only proposed and not passed.

This is the text of the proposed DC legislation:

So yes, this is very very real, and Tumblr changed how they display Twitter links - the thread had all of this info in it except for the link to The Hill. :)

Please reblog this version before I lose my fucking mind over people reblogging the original post saying “I haven’t checked this and I don’t know if it’s real.”
