From David Wise’s cover story, The President and the Press in the April 1973 issue:

The First Amendment clearly protects the printed press. But the Founding Fathers, after all, did not foresee the advent of television, and the degree to which broadcasting is protected by the First Amendment has been subject to shifting interpretation. Technology has outpaced the Constitution, and the result is a major paradox: television news, which has the greatest impact on the public, is the most vulnerable and the least protected news medium.

Reblogging from a friend who said this is terrifying, and while it is scary, it also has a silver lining. CNN published this article verbatim - in other words, they put this article out to their subscribers, with all its criticism of Spicer and of his boss behind him.

CNN has also refused to air Trump press conferences live, until further notice - which is fairly unprecedented for a major news network.

I’m hoping this continues the trend of press showing some backbone. My parents were both journalists for 30 years each. There are good members of the media who are strong and brave. Keep that in mind.

White House press secretary attacks media for accurately reporting inauguration crowds

by Brian Stelter

“That’s what you guys should be writing and covering,” new White House press secretary Sean Spicer angrily lectured reporters on Saturday during his first remarks from the podium of the press briefing room.

He was referring to the delay in Senate confirmation for President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the CIA, Congressman Mike Pompeo, but the comment came after a long digression about how many people had shown up to watch Trump be sworn in as president.

Friday’s ceremony had the largest inauguration crowd ever, “period,” Spicer said, contradicting all available data.

He also expressed objections to specific Twitter posts from journalists on Friday.

And he said, “we’re going to hold the press accountable,” partly by  bypassing major news outlets and going directly to the public through social networking sites.

Spicer, at times almost yelling while reading a prepared statement, took no questions.

Some longtime White House correspondents were stunned by the tirade.

Glenn Thrush of The New York Times wrote on Twitter, “Jaw meet floor.”

Karen Tumulty of the Washington Post said Spicer’s assertion about “what you guys should be writing” was “chilling.”

Ari Fleischer, who had the same job as Spicer during the George W. Bush administration, tweeted, “This is called a statement you’re told to make by the President. And you know the President is watching.”

And Brian Fallon, who was in line to become press secretary if Hillary Clinton had won, wrote, “Sean Spicer lacks the guts or integrity to refuse orders to go out and lie. He is a failure in this job on his first full day.”]

WHAT HAPPENED:

This is not surprising as Trump holds stock in Energy Transfer Partners, the same company that is building the Dakota Access Pipeline according to Fortune.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

  • The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s water supply may be heavily compromised if the pipeline would ever leak.

As environmentalist Bill McKibben noted in the New Yorker, the pipeline was originally slated to cross the Missouri River not far from North Dakota’s capital city of Bismarck, but the route was changed partly due to concerns about the potential contamination of the capitol’s drinking water in the event of a leak or spill. The pipeline is now set to run half a mile from the Sioux reservation near its water supply, Lake Oahe. (x)

  • The construction of the pipeline is expected to disrupt the tribe’s sacred burial grounds and other historically significant sites.
  • In a broader perspective, the environment would suffer extreme consequences as it will fuel climate change.

Not only is it infringing on Native American rights but this pipeline will quicken the demise of Planet Earth. This is bigger than politics.

MPAA system has been in its current form for over 25 years

(Breitbart - Oval Office) President Donald J. Trump has issues a new Executive Order ending the liberal political correctness behind the Trigger Warnings that have been used to kill the commercial viability of movies and interfering with educational films like Apocalypto and Children of Men, which deliver a pro-life message and is the real reason they were given a so-called “r rating”.

The MPAA has been issuing movie ratings to help guide parents in their decisions to expose children to too much violence or any sexual nudity.

“It’s useless,” said White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, “I took my wife to see 50 Shades of Grey in order to re-ignite our interest in helping do our civic duty. But there were parents who brought three year-olds to the film and instead, it made my wife so uncomfortable she got a headache instead.”

Correction: an earlier version of this article speculated that Secretary Spicer’s social agenda was negatively impacted by the experience and is the source of his constant foul mood. That speculation was completely out of place and we’re told there are no problems ‘down there’.

Emails from DNC server show Flynn, DIA director under Obama, was sent as a mole and Trump caught him just in time.

(RT - Moscow) Documents provided by Wikileaks in the form of emails and memos hacked from the DNC prove General Flynn actually joined the Trump campaign under false pretenses.

“Have Flynn call me,” stated one email from DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to Obama in August, “We need to make sure he doesn’t overplay his hand on Russia.”

“It seems pretty clear that the email proves the DNC knew and in fact directed Flynn’s communications with Russian Intelligence,” said Press Secretary Sean Spicer, “That means that it was actually Hillary in contact with Russia. That makes a lot more sense. It means Putin was trying to help the Democrats by setting up the president and that, as has been historically true, it is the Democrats who have betrayed the nation to Russia.”

The administration hasn’t released all the evidence yet, stating that they want to make sure none of the evidence against Hillary and the DNC was fabricated.

“We want to be certain we don’t inadvertently mislead the American People. President Trump has been nothing but 100% honest and accurate with his statements, and we want to continue the administration’s track record,” explained Spicer.

“If these new leaks turn out to be confirmed, and we think they will,” say Attorney General Sessions, “We will indict Hillary, Obama, and anyone else in the DNC privy to this plot to bring down the government. We will charge them with espionage and sedition. Anyone who speaks with a foreign power about policy decisions when not authorized by the president is committing a serious crime, and since Flynn did so, that he did so at the behest of the Democratic Party is both serious and disappointing.”

The administration promised confirmation no later than Monday.
