#note taking

LIVE

In my previous post, I talked about how my laptop is basically my lifesaver. The fact it comes with a stylus makes it so much better. With it, I can highlight and take notes on PDFs but I can also take handwritten notes and even draw. Which for me, is what truly makes the difference, as I feel more comfortable taking handwritten notes.

Why digital notes? You don’t have to worry about forgetting a notebook, running out of pages or ink. You can go back and delete whatever mistake you have made without making a mess and it is very flexible. You can organize your notes whichever way you find convenient. Some apps even let you search your handwriting, which is something I didn’t know I needed. How many times have you tried looking for something in your notes and taken basically an eternity to find it? With digital notes, that is no longer a problem. Taking notes by hand helps you remember better than just typing. So taking the benefits of handwriting and the organizational benefits of going digital, you’ll have one of the most effective weapons at your disposal.

What apps do you use?

Sometimes I want to get a brush pen and a Leuchtturm1917 and let my hand do its work. However, my values stop me from supporting the community in the way I initially wanted to, which is analogue for the most part. So I had to come up with a way to get my shit together, a la bullet journal style that was convenient, environmentally friendly and of course, work for me.

Thus my armour was born.

1. Laptop and stylus. My laptop is without a doubt the most useful tool I possess. Apart from the standard use of typing reports and using my friend Google to the max, I am able to download my college books, handouts and syllabus. But interestingly, it also doubles as an actual paper notebook because it is stylus enabled, so I can highlight and take notes on pdf’s, write and draw. I’ve got the best of both worlds. Can you hear my cry of joy in the background?!

2. Phone. Even though my laptop is basically my lifesaver, sometimes I just don’t wanna carry it around. I don’t plan on walking around with a backpack 24/7 and I don’t own a purse or a bag or whatever people use. That’s why pockets exist and I don’t carry much anyways. This is where my phone comes to play. It’s compact, fits in my pocket and above all, it syncs with all the apps I use to stay organized. All my files, available anywhere I go. Plus it also has a stylus. More cries of joy in the background!

3. Notebook and a pen. Last but definitely not least, I do own a notebook. With a refillable fountain pen. I know, I know. What was all that speech just above about not using analogue methods?! Let me explain. If you’re an artist, I think you might have the same problem as me. I owned a horrendous amount of sketchbooks and none of them was finished. So I made a little DIY Bullet Journal out of the empty pages. I only use the notebook for when I am not allowed to use my laptop, which is after 6pm, so I can give my eyes a break from the lights and prepare myself to sleep. There, I write and doodle to my heart’s content.

So my laptop, my stylus, my phone, my notebook and my fountain pen are all the tools I need to go to class and take notes. At the same time, they offer me a minimalist armour that allows me to be more productive in class and it helps me reduce the amount of trash I produce. Although both methods, analogue and digital, have their pros and cons when it comes to the environment, the tools needed for digital processes are fewer and it helps me produce less trash. At the end of the day, it all comes down if the method you’re using works for you and if you’re happy and satisfied with it.

This is just a thought, but would any of you guys buy my notes if I rewrote them and made digital copies? Please let me know :)

❓What would you name your boat if you had one?

✏️ I think I would name my boat Beatrice because I’m a huge fan of the A Series of Unfortunate Events Life update: We had our first midterms examination for the new semester earlier this week. It feels good to study again but also really stressful. I’m trying my best to stay active on all of my social media accounts.

Currently reading: Atomic Habits by James Clear. I have been enjoying this book so far! It’s remarkable. I have a Goodreads account in case you are interested on the books I’m reading.

Thank you for tuning in today’s post ❤️

❓ What are your favorite cartoon shows as a kid?

✏️ I really liked Codename: Kids Next Door, Higglytown Heroes, Little Einstein, and Baby Loony Tunes. I also remember watching lots of Dexter’s Laboratory, Ed, Edd n Eddy, and the animated Mr. Bean. Adventure Time and Phineas & Ferb are also great shows. Growing up, I now like the cartoons Avatar: The Last Airbender, Hilda, We Bare Bears, and Steven Universe. Now that I think about it, I was tuning in on quite a lot of cartoon shows Do you know where I can rewatch some of these?

Life update: Our classes for the new semester started last week and I’m having quite a hard time transitioning from an unproductive holiday break to a semester jam-packed with workload. I find myself waking up early but procrastinating and not making the most out of my time. I hope I pass through this phase because my backlogs are starting to file up.

Currently reading: The Beatrice Letters by Lemony Snicket

That’s all for today’s post!

❓Today’s question: What was the last movie you watched?

I’m currently torn on what the topic of these long captions I’ve been trying to write should be Do you want to hear how my student life has been lately or do you want me to talk about something else? I was thinking of maybe giving a few study tips every now and then but I think it will be best if you went ahead and check my Youtube channel for that because that’s where I explain study tips with more depth. I’m only a few days away from the new semester and I haven’t really done anything borderline ~productive~ to prepare for what’s ahead of me.

Currently reading: The End (A Series of Unfortunate Events 13th Book)

26.10.21|Hey, guys! I reviewed a bit of history (actually, last week I just studied history and geography). These annotations are old, currently I’m trying to write on the tablet. I have a samsung tablet released in 2015 that keeps working (I really don’t know how to, haha) and found a PERFECT annotations app called touch notes. I think it’s the best app of its kind I’ve used in all these years and it’s still free! Do you usually take digital notes? What do you think about that? I know a lot of people criticize, but with this app it really looks like I’m writing on a sheet hahaha

20.10.21 | Hi guys, I have been away for a long period of time. With the pandemic, I decided to take a break from my social networks, but now I’m back with news! I dropped out of law school to do medical school! Medicine has always been my passion and I want to chase my dream! For now, I am still doing the selection processes to enter the universities, here in Brazil everyone who leaves high school must do these selection processes that we call “vestibular”. The exam to enter a medical university is usually very difficult and competitive, so I will show you my study routine here!

Note: I don’t use instagram anymore, which means I’ll be much more active on tumblr and sorry for bad english haha

I’m getting into major-specific classes and I love it so much

And like that, it’s the second week

Here is a time lapse of me taking quick notes while reading so I can go back and take notes a lot faster on my iPad. I managed to get my beta fish in the background while studying. I love watching him swim while I study. and he likes to look at me

Update for anyone who cares or happens to read this:

This semester is already flying the f* by! I’m in my second week and am starting to get the hang of things (I hope). I guess we’ll find out as time goes by. I need to get startered on my resume for a job (hopefully my 2nd job) and on my personal statement for my grad. School application. If anyone has any advice about that, that would be great

Continuing with my studying habits. I just finished reading a chapter for my Behavioral Analysis class and I’m super excited to hit the ground running ✨
