LIVE

i sense your inner vanity:
silver, polished, shining
and see that self-reflection
is priority, not self-hiding

so learn about your hollows, love
learn about your flaws
find the darkest parts inside
and place the spotlight on your core

because within you is a human
just trying to be good
and i think
sometimes
that little selfish heart
is sorely misunderstood

there is no more to do
but sit
wrapped in wool & a good read
palmful of soft blanket,
pulled up to my chin

restful, in the wake of the day
peaceful, in the very best way

our next sessions are Saturday, April 9, 2022!! (8:30am and 8:30pm EST). Hang out with us on Zoom - password: 071120

our sessions are super casual and a lot of fun! they run for around 2hrs, so pop in anytime for as long as you can. it’s a great opportunity to listen to other poets, make some friends and maybe learn a little something about how different people write along the way.

Panic Attack by Douglas Robert Turek

True story.  I had my first panic attack.  Throughout the night I had chest pains, which kept me awake and worried.  At 4 AM, I gave up on sleeping, resigned myself to a nap later and decided to go downstairs to read or something.  I was still anxious about the chest pain and I started to panic, which made me breathe fast, my heart pounding, and I was convinced it was a heart attack.  Googling did not make me feel better, as panic attacks and heart attacks have many of the same symptoms.  My wife helped me calm down, assured me that panic attacks suck, but pass.  At her urging, I listened to some music to calm down.  An hour or so later, I was mostly okay.  Throughout the day, my chest pain remained.  I went to the emergency room, where, after about 20 hours of observation, chest x-rays, cat scans and poking and prodding, they finally determined that I had pericarditis, a swelling of the sac that surrounds the heart.  It’s treatable, I got on meds, and they seem to have sorted it out.  It’s been a rough week or so, but I’m grateful to be here.  It’s amazing what can come out of nowhere.
