Stargazing in Central Oregon. Daniel & his father Walter swing on the bench & pick out the constellations in the midnight sky. It was the Summer of 1941 & in just a few short months, Walter would be called to service. Blue & Gold!
I’d like you all to meet The Seven Sisters, an open star cluster containing B-type stars located in the constellation of Taurus. My personal favorite open cluster. I really wanted to shoot the Pleiades and couldn’t wait until they were in the sky earlier in the night, so I shot this on a night where they would be high enough starting at 22:30; it turned out to be a pretty late night. It was also the night before my birthday, so I spent the early morning of my birthday accompanied by The Seven Sisters; Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno, and Alcyone. Along with their parents, Atlas and Pleione.
Enjoy!

A little about this object:
The Pleiades were formed within the last 100 million years. They’re about 444 light-years away from us. Around the brightest of the stars, you see the reflection nebulae; clouds of interstellar dust which reflect the light of nearby stars. There are two theories about the nebulae; that it could be leftover material from the formation of the cluster, or that it could be an unrelated dust cloud in the interstellar medium through which the stars are currently passing. There is an origin of the name Pleiades, as well as some very interesting folklore and mythology. Look into it!
Also, astronomers estimate that the cluster will survive for about another 250 million years, after which it will disperse due to gravitational interactions with its galactic neighborhood.

Clear skies,

‘His stars’- Misfits Request!

This is a Nathan Young imagine from the show Misfits, Nathan is played by Robert Sheehan!

I hope you enjoy this! Requested by: @jessefandomunited

———————————————————————

“Something soft and squishy, how about you both happen to be at this party for like a mutual friend of someone’s parents and you’re out there dancing with all the old people and he thinks that you’re just super funny and cute and asks to dance with you, You end up stealing some alcohol and going outside to sit on the grass and Star gaze”

———————————————————————

You stare at your hand, picking your nails half assed as the slow rendition of ‘jailhouse rock’ by Elvis plays in the low quality speakers, you didn’t care for this party at all, you didn’t even want to be here. It just so happened that a couple of months ago you were caught stealing a pair of roller skates from a car boot sale, you didn’t have money to buy them, you just wanted them. So you took them, who would’ve guessed that old man wanted his £5 so much? So now, here you were, doing your role in community service, with five other utter crackhead teenagers, at a party in a nursing home.

Trying to avoid making eye contact as much as possible you hummed at the floor quietly, but failed as the next thing you knew you were looking into the eyes of some 80 year old man, slowly walking towards you, his wrinkly left hand tightly clutching his walking stick as he struggled to get close to you. You eased yourself back awkwardly, not wanting to dance with him, and tried to find your way out of the situation. You looked around until you saw the perfect distraction, Nathan. Out of all of the people who you you ‘worked’ with, you and Nathan were undoubtedly the closest. Your entire relationship consisted of friendly banter and purely platonic flirting, at least platonic is probably what he considered it.

You laughed quietly under your breath as you watched him, he was dancing with an old lady, as she happily swayed to the beat he was there with the most bored look I’ve ever seen on a human being, he didn’t want to be there, and you didn’t want to be here either, so you decided to be nice and take him away from his obviously awkward predicament.

On the way, you stopped at the drink table in the corner, and grabbed the bottle of clear white vodka by the neck of the bottle, it was probably brought here by Kelly, but it was yours now. As you got to him his back was turned, and you tapped him on the shoulder, he turned around and grinned once he saw you, and his grin largened when he saw the liquor clutched in your right hand. Before he could even exscuse himself you had already grabbed the green fabric of his shirt and forcefully yet playfully dragged him away.

“Hey! Not a cool move, Glinda and I were really hitting it off back there” you laughed at his sarcasm as he loosely slung his arm over your shoulders, waking side by side, you sneaked your way outside the doors, into the dark car park. Luckily, there were hardly any cars parked, due to it being around 9pm, so you both decided to lay down in the middle of the vast empty parking spaces, supporting yourselves with your arms. The moon glistened down on you both, and you happily laid your head on Nathan’s shoulders, your legs entwined.

Nathan watched in awe as you stared up at the sky in concerntration, he looked up confused, trying to see what you were obviously so interested in, but all he could see were the endless twinkle of stars littering the sky, eventually he just had to ask.

“What on earth are you looking at?” You didn’t reply, but instead just nodded your head up to the stars.

“The stars?” His Irish accent became stronger with his confusion, but as he looked up at the stars with you once again, he suddenly realised the reason why you were so in awe. The stars became the second most beautiful thing in the world to him, and he studied the constellations, but eventually his gaze turned back to you, and he smiled softly as he watched you. You were so beautiful to him, you were his everything. You were his stars.

None of you even realised you were both slowly leaning into each other, and suddenly you were connected. You were one, and it couldn’t have been a better moment and time for you both to share.

Slowly you pulled away from him, and clasped your hands together as you both turned your attention back to the sky, occasionally sipping on your vodka. Who would’ve guessed that a crappy nursing home party would lead to such a precious moment? Nathan didn’t, but he surely didn’t regret it, after all, you were his stars.

I really hoped you enjoyed this! I really loved writing this and I think this idea was so adorable and wholesome <3

Seagull Nebula - This portrait of the cosmic bird covers a 1.6 degree wide swath across the plane of the Milky Way, near the direction of Sirius, alpha star of the constellation Canis Major. Dominated by the reddish glow of atomic hydrogen, the complex of gas and dust clouds with bright young stars spans over 100 light-years at an estimated 3,800 light-year distance.

Lower’s Nebula - The HII region Sh 2-261 is often called Lower’s nebula because it appears on a photographic plate taken by the father-and-son team of Harold and Charles Lower in 1939. The Lowers were amateur astronomers, accomplished telescope makers and pioneering astrophotographers from San Diego, California. This is one of the faintest and most difficult objects I’ve shot so far. It’s a very dim, deep red, characteristic of hydrogen alpha light. I do love that colour very much though and it was a fun challenge to shoot and process. The Crab Nebula - 964 years ago Chinese astronomers looked to the sky and saw a bright new star in the constellation of Taurus. In 1731 English astronomer John Bevis discovered a small faint smudge in his telescope in the same spot of the sky. This then became the first ever seen nebula counterpart of a visually observed supernova. Located 6500 light years from Earth, this rapidly expanding explosion is now 11 light years across, an incredible distance for the shock wave to have travelled in less than 100 years!

As usual, winter has been challenging to try and take night sky photos! Not only has it been very cloudy, but there have been a lot of windy nights, as was the case on this night. As such, the stars aren’t quite as tight and round as I’d like, but I’m still satisfied with how this photo came out. For now! I’ll hopefully try it again in the future after I’ve further improved my skills and equipment.

Centaurus A - One of the brightest galaxies in the sky, Cen A is also the brightest radio source in the night sky. A huge and unusual galaxy it is extremely active in all wavelengths from radio to gamma rays. The distinctive dark dust lane is visible even in a powerful pair of binoculars. At a distance of 10-16 million light years, it is believed to be the result of the merger of two galaxies and now contains a supermassive black hole 55 million times the mass of the sun at its core. This is my second attempt at this object, the first being two years ago. Commission illustration for Sarah Tilgner (@edelblume)!
Featuring Iris a.k.a. variant!Penny and James Ironwood. In this scene, which happens in Atlas park, James points out one specific star – Hiems, the winter star – that’ll let Penny find her way home wherever she is.

The following below is a snippet from a work-in-progress AU, based on the loose premise of someone from our world winding up in Penny’s body. This particular bit, and the commission, takes place about two years before Volume 1.

Iris’ gaze flitted to the countdown, nestled ever-present in the corner of her vision, steadily ticking away the precious time she had left. Four months over two years. Only four months over two years to find a way to save Vale. To prevent the fall of Beacon. To, somehow, beat Salem at her own game.

And after, if there wasan after…

Shoulders sagging, she sought out that star. Iris wanted to be suspicious of the General’s motives in pointing it out to her, she really did, and yet, she couldn’t find it in her. It wasn’t just something to lead her to the Academy, a place to be kept, and it wasn’t as though it insinuated that she should think of Atlas as home — at least, not yet. It had been kind, and gentle, and a sort of understanding that was painfully personal. It was a promise, she supposed. Of safety, and belonging, and of somewhere to simply always come back to, if she needed it. A reminder that she wasn’t so alone in Remnant as she’d firmly believed. Staring through the haze of the aurora, the towers of Atlas Academy standing like silver sentinels against the night sky, Iris realized that, for the first time, she truly, earnestly didn’t feel like she was.

God help her, what was she going to do?

Beacon, first, she thought. Everything else, later. And then, taking a deep breath, she turned away from the stars, and the city skyline, and the cold she was suddenly rather happy not to notice.

My last drawing from 2018, as my timezone just passed midnight.
This evening I spent inspired by Mass Effect. That damnsad song from the third game. (But due to me never playing the end EVER AGAIN everyone will live and be happy and everything is good).

More feelings, not as much character. But still, due to base and inspiration:
