Ralph:What? Not everyone likes Cisco.
Frost: Who doesn’t?
Ralph:Well-

I know I haven’t made a personal statement regarding Hartley’s tweets, but I feel like it’s time I did.
To start: I do not condone, agree with or sympathise with Hartley’s old tweets. I was actually shocked to see what he wrote because I never imagined those words coming from him. I always saw him as a funny, weird guy who cared about people and animals (especially the animals, because I could relate to that), who made me laugh with his dumb posts and who portayed my favourite character on a show I’ve been watching for ages. I did not expect him to say any of these things, whether they were meant as a joke or not.
Second, though saddened by the news that Hartley won’t be joining The Flash for season 7 (or onward), I do understand the decision to fire him. Yes, I’m gonna be sad to not see Hartley portray Ralph anymore, but with everything that’s going on in the world at this moment, I get that they can’t employ someone who, even if it were in the past, doesn’t advocate for equality between races and gender, especially with so many POCs (and WOCs of course) on the show.
Lastly, and I know this is probably the least important thing to get out of all of this, I want to let you all know that I will not be going forward with this blog. This isn’t only because of what has happened in the last few weeks, though that’s a big part of it, but for personal reasons as well. I feel like for a while now, I haven’t been able to keep up with this page in the way that I should or wanted to. This combined with recent events tells me it’s time to retire this blog.
I want to say a big thank you to everyone who’s supported me on this page, to the people who I’ve spoken to,…
Thank you!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to write something about this, but fuck it.
People who are defending Hartley aren’t defending, supporting or agreeing with his past tweets. Of course we think they’re bad, of course he should’ve known better and of course We. Do. Not. Condone. What. He. Said.
What we are defending, though, is the fact that people can change. Those posts were made many years ago. And no, that doesn’t make what Hartley tweeted okay, but it has also given him the time to reflect on what he said.
So many people around the world are starting to become more aware of current issues. I’m sure a lot of them are starting to educate themselves because of what happened the last few weeks, which is applaudable! But I wonder, in a time where people are educating themselves on the current situation in the world concerning race, sexuality, identity,… and where people are encouraging others to do the same, why are some people so quick to believe that Hartley can’t do this?
A lot of years have passed since he posted those tweets. Was he old enough back then to know better? Yes, absolutely. But that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t grown as a person and educated himself throughout the last few years.
A friend of mine sent me a couple of reddit threads.
The first one contains a couple of testimonies of people who know Hartley personally.
The second one is pretty much a post that calls out The CW’s hypocrisy. This is a channel that has so many shows that contain redemption arcs, a lot of them in the Arrowverse. So many bad characters have turned it around and became better. This is something The CW stands for. Yet, when one of their employees did something bad (I still don’t excuse his tweets) many years ago, their entire belief of “people can change for the better” gets thrown out the window.
I’m not saying The CW should let it slide. Of course they can give him a sanction. Give him a smaller role next season, promote his character less, don’t let him be part of official promotion like SDCC (I know it’s cancelled but you get the idea). Hell, give him a lower salary for all I care. But spreading the message that people can become better throughout many of their series but doing the opposite in real life, I don’t know… It feels weird to me.
I know plenty of people don’t want to hear any support for Hartley right now, which I get. But I just wanted to get some thoughts out, probably for my own sake, because if not, I will just bottle them up and get even more annoyed by all of it.
If you’ve read this far, thank you for taking the time to do so!

I wrote a post very similar to this one on my Hartley Sawyer blog, which you can read here. It pretty much contains the same things I’m going to write here, but feel free to read that one as well.
I know I haven’t made any posts regarding Hartley’s old tweets. This is mainly because I just don’t wanna participate or fuel these kinds of things and because I often feel like I can’t find the right words to bring my opinion across.
That said, I feel like it is time I said something about the entire situation.
First of all, I do not condone, agree with or sympathise with Hartley’s old tweets. I didn’t know him before he joined The Flash and I always saw him as a funny, weird guy who made dumb posts and who cared about people as well as animals, the latter really meant a lot to me because very little of the celebrities I follow speak out for animal rights.
Hartley portrayed my favourite character on a show I’d been watching for ages and he often made me smile, both as Ralph and as himself.
Because of all this, I was actually shocked to see his old tweets. I never imagined him capable of saying those things, whether they were meant as a joke or not. He should’ve known better back then, but I especially hope that since then, he became more educated on these matters.
Second, though saddened by the news that Hartley won’t be joining The Flash for season 7, and onward, I do understand and agree with the decision to fire him. I’m gonna be sad to not see him play Ralph anymore, but with everything that’s going on in the world right now, I get that they can’t employ someone who, even if it were in the past, doesn’t advocate for equality between races and gender, especially with so many POCs (and WOCs of course) on the show.
Lastly, if you read my statement on my Hartley blog, you will know that I decided to retire that page, both because of recent events as well as personal reasons.
I want you all to know that this won’t be the case for this blog.
I am going on hiatus until the new season starts and, depending on what the show decides to do with Ralph’s character, I will either continue or retire this blog at that point. If they decide to write Ralph out of the show entirely, this blog will most likely stop. If the role gets recasted, I’ll probably continue, depending on how my personal situation is at that point.
For now, I have one thing, not gif related, that I will be posting soon. But that will be it for a long time.
I don’t know what the future holds for Ralph Dibny and this blog, but before I end this post, I would like to thank everyone who made the past 3 years running this page so much fun! I’ve talked to so many people, had so much fun with everything I did here. I feel like we created our own small corner in this fandom that I will cherish for a long time!
So thank you all!

Can we just talk about what an amazing friendship Ralph and Frost have?
It’s honestly one of my favourite things about the show at the moment!!
