Not so friendly reminder that abortion bans violate Jewish women and Jewish families’ religious freedom.

Jewish law does not reconize a fetus as a fully autonomous person nor does it legally consider the fetus to be a full person deserving of protections equal those accorded to human beings by G-d.

The Talmud states that the fetus as part of its mother throughout the pregnancy, dependent fully on her for its life — merely an extension of the mother.

Hey everyone with a uterus on my friends list. With the current bs events taken place in this horrific time line, I just wanna give ya a PSA. Join the Satanic Temple, Islam, or convert to Judaism. Those religions have a religious and holy book right to grantee the life of the mother. Abortions are mandatory when the life of the mother is stressed or threatened. Don’t let the zealot Christians in our government control you. Take a stand and secure the rights they are trying to take from you. You have options. Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

Converting to Judaism is not the answer you think it is. Spend that time on activism instead.

And TST has never won a religious freedoms case regarding abortion. Not to mention that no Rabbi is gonna accept you as a conversion student if abortion is your driving reason. You have no idea the kind of work that goes into conversion.

The Satanic Temple cannot help you get an abortion, and it does not deserve your support.

Also, related to this discussion, if it were possible for a religious liberty argument to work for someone other than Christian bigots, the Temple’s failures in court establish bad precedent that makes future cases harder for other, much more established religions to argue.

@QueenMab87 To make a religious argument on the basis of atheists or the satanic temple you would likely need to get judges to admit anti abortion laws are based in Christianity. You don’t need to do that to make a Jewish religious freedom argument for abortion. Judges are not going to take satanic temple arguments for abortion seriously. I worry putting them up next to Jewish arguments will delegitimize the Jewish fight. Seriously stop

Someone twisted this Jewish family’s menorah into the shape of a swastika

Naomi Ellis and her her husband Seth spent Friday morning — the morning after the sixth night of Hanukkah — trying to explain to their three young sons why someone had vandalized the menorah the family had put out on their yard by twisting the metal pieces into the shape of a swastika.

The Ellis family had only built the 7-foot-tall menorah on the front lawn of their home in Chandler, Arizona, because their sons, ages 5, 7 and 9, had asked their parents if the family could decorate their home like the neighbors did for Christmas, the Washington Postreported.Read more.

This is America in the 21st century.  Please reblog, even if you’re not Jewish.  Especially if you’re not Jewish.  Spread awareness and let your Jewish followers know that we’re not alone.

You want to know what white privilege is? Being allowed to wear a damn colander on your head in a driver’s license as an expression of your religious freedom, while brown people have to deal with protests calling for the closing of their mosques.

Our Lady of La Vang (Đức Mẹ La Vang), Vietnam

This title (feast day November 22nd) stems from a Marian apparition in 1798, a time when Catholics were persecuted and killed in Vietnam. On June 19th, 1998, Pope John Paul II publicly recognized the importance of Our Lady of La Vang and expressed desire to rebuild the La Vang Basilica in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the first vision. Jewish law explicitly allows for abortion when the health of the mother is at risk, and in many other cases.  In some cases abortion is recommended or required by halakha.  Prohibiting them by law infringes on Jewish religious freedom.  Not to mention it’s unsafe.
