Paradise flying snake [ Chrysopelea paradisi ] with Sampaguita and male Danaid eggflies ✿
May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month ♡ I want to take this month to celebrate my Filipino heritage, as well as share some of the beautiful snakes and flowers found in the Philippines.
Paradise flying snakes can be found throughout Southeast Asia, from Bangladesh all the way to the islands of the Philippines. They are able to use their ribs to flatten their bodies a surprising amount, to then glide from tree to tree in the moist forests they call home. These snakes are mildly venomous, and feed on lizards and bats in the wild.
Sampaguita (Arabian Jasmine) is the national flower of the Philippines; it is beloved for its scent, and symbolizes purity, fidelity, and hope.

Here’s my contribution to the MAYnananggal trend.
The flowers on her belt are Sampaguita (the Philippine’s national flower) and Gumamela (Hibiscus). The top she’s wearing is actually a call to the bomber jackets @/jorel.espina (instagram) creates which are inspired by Philippine traditional clothes like the Barong and Filipiniana.

When you’re trying to catch the LRT home during rush hour while making sure you don’t dislocate yourself like last time, it can be a grueling task. Even getting something to eat has become taxing as you now have to adhere to societal norms and morals.
Back then, you could just climb onto any sorry sod’s roof and cherry-pick a heart or two. I wonder how long Dinuguan and Betamax skewers can sate these cravings.
Oh, how I miss the old days.”

am really happy to be part of this collection, alongside other amazing SEA artists ✨ i designed a tape that collages uniquely Filipino icons and objects – rolled up together all dreamy-like (and i’m so in love with the gold foil! aaaaaa!!)

Profile illustrations of a very bright original character I like to call Kahel (seems like I really love that word cos I have a lot of OCs that have that name), drawn for SCHEMA from 2020 up to 2021.
First two illus are for Pride Month 2020 (their only difference being the contrasting shirts and bg cos I couldn’t choose which looked better so I submitted both and let the SCHEMA Editor-in-Chief decide), 3rd is for Buwan ng Wika 2020, and the last one for Valentines 2021
