My Christmas Cactus surprised me with another flower!!!!

This was the Schlumbergera bridgesii I bought and immediately had to transplant because I didn’t have a pot big enough, and all the blooms fell off right away before they all opened. I’m so glad this one likes this spot on my windowsill, and I’m ESPECIALLY glad that it enjoys being in a pot with no holes on the bottom. I feel very validated. (I HATE when pots have to have a plastic liner pot inside them.)

I’ve had success multiple times with keeping hole-less pots, but online people always freak out when they see it happen unsuccessfully. I know my room’s temperature and air humidity well enough to know how to water these. (I actually water this Christmas Cactus like every other day! This window gets very hot, and paired with my space heater usage, it NEEDS a few drops to keep a consistent atmosphere.)

Anyway, I’m very happy to see this neon pink flower open up. The rest of my Christmas Cactus pieces all got planted into hanging planters above my vanity recently (I got sick of having too many small pots of them taking up so much space), so hopefully hy the time they grow a bit more, they’ll all drape some flowers down the sides for me.

(Also, please ignore the corner of failed moss rehydration in the last pic… I’m actually gonna add a different moss and let that grow on this stuff instead of try to rehydrate the dried stuff.)

IS THAT A SPIDER?!?!

NOPE! Just a part of the flower! Lmao, I’m lying in bed, and all of the sudden my spidey senses start tingling, so I shift my gaze to right above my head and see this perspective. Sure fooled me!
So why not do a quick Christmas Cacti spotlight before the last of the flowers fall off thanks to my ill-timed repotting.

The way the stems grow reminds me so much of my Dragonfruit plant, how they’re a little spiky, wavy, and segmented. (And thankfully, no glochids on either, ofc.) But the nature of these cacti to drape and snake around and break apart is just so similar.
Hopefully, that means I will have enough succulent foreknowledge to not immediately kill these cuties. But I also have not been able to get my dragonfruit to blossom yet, either, so…

Also, don’t let me Google whether these are edible or not. Because they look delicious, and I don’t think I would be able to help myself.

Cleaned up my plants and windowsills! The bigge boi is my dream plant, a Dragon’s Blood Tree

Cleaned up my plants and windowsills!

The bigge boi is my dream plant, a Dragon’s Blood Tree (“Dracaena draco”), and he weighs like 60+ pounds, MINIMUM, I s2g. I’m amazed I was able to deadlift him up the whole stairway (in a very smooth pot with no grips) when I could barely move him 5 feet into the house after potting him last month. (And the grow light is there because I don’t think it’s quite enough sunlight, but he’s been doing well inside with NO direct light for the past month, so…)

I also have 2 new Poinsettias (“Euphorbia pulcherrima”) bc I’m all about that #tropicallyfe !! One’s a pinky salmon colour, and the other is red and white variegated “Mexican Flameleaf”. My mom also has a classic red one we’re gonna try to plant in the yard after it stops blooming.

My “Cordyline indivisa” got his pot painted gold finally to match all my shit. He’s looking REALLY great and has grown A LOT. I feel bad that his brother I kept outside died last spring, but that’s why I kept them separate!

I also got a Christmas Cactus (“Schlumbergera bridgesii”) and unfortunately did not have a pot big enough for all 4 of them to stay together, so I had to separate them out, and now their flowers and buds are dropping off. But better that than staying in the gross nursery pot. (I know, they like to be pot-bound, but I can’t keep a black nursery pot inside, it’s not #aesthetic .)

My other plants are still kickin’ - Persian Shield plants (“Strobilanthus”) and Dark Star Coleus (“Coleus”). I tried propagating both from a clipping, but I think it’s too cold for them downstairs… so. The jury’s still out on those. (Also pictured: Arrowhead Plant/“Syngonium podophyllum” and Rubber Plant/“Ficus elastica”).

I still have a bunch more plant-organizing to do on my vanity counter, so stay tuned for that. (But only if I stop procrastinating it.)

23/May/2016

Both schlumbergeras are getting ready to show some flowers, I can’t wait to see them! Mine (the bright green one) had really pretty red/orange flowers last time, I wonder which color mom’s one (the dark green) would show, she can’t remember the last time it bloomed.

The dahlias germinated just 3 days after being planted! The box said it would take a minimum of 10 days, it was a surprise.

Grandpa’s delphinium started showing some flowers, it’s a pity that branch has been damaged and bent, but there are more buds about to open.

The plant that started growing in the same pot has begun to show some leaves, I’m very curious about what is it, if the seeds came from our balcony, it must be a calla since it’s the only bulbous plant we have there, but since the pot has soil from grandpa’s garden, it can be tulips or narcissus since grandpa had a lot there. Whichever it is, it would be pretty! I have to transplant them asap, but I’m afraid to damage the delphinium’s roots.

Also, today I received seeds from exotic-plants.de (I bought them from their Amazon’s shop). They have a lot of beautiful flowers’ seeds! That’s where I got the adenium, wisteria and camellia seeds last time. Now I got 5 new varieties, I put a picture from their shop so you can see how they look when they grow. I’m in love with my little Luang Lai adenium, so I got another variety. I have to transplant the remaining snapdragons to use the seedbed. I should have bought another one! I didn’t think all the snapdragons I planted would grow, I’m proud of them! I can’t wait to germinate the new seeds~
