Okay, so turns out the word “ainatar”

is an elven combination of holy + father, to mean a god

The curious bit is that it sounds an awful lot like annatar

and I am 100% sure that Sauron was well aware of this pun

Was pun like a thing in the Second Age?

The 2nd age was a special time

My fifteen watercolours depicting Tolkien’s Second Age. They’re for a book which I’ll post more info on soon. From tomorrow evening, A4 prints (10 copies per motif) will be up for preorder at my Storenvy. They’ll be ready for shipping in a fortnight. https://khorazir.storenvy.com/

The prints are up for preorder now. For those who want all of them, two complete sets are available at a reduced price. If there is more demand, I will offer more, so let me know.

“Númenórean steel-bows”

Fifteenth and final new watercolour depicting Tolkien’s Second Age. I will post a compilation of all fifteen motifs later today, with information about where to acquire prints.

“The silent watchers”

Thirteenth of fifteen new watercolours depicting Tolkien’s Second Age.

Since one of the prints of my Second Age watercolour of “Sending out ships” is slightly damaged in the upper lefthand corner, I’m giving it away. If you’re interested in entering the draw, reblog/retweet until tomorrow, Sunday 22nd May 23h GMT+1.

Also, because the two complete sets of all my 15 Second Age artworks sold out so quickly, I’ve made another two sets available at my storenvy:

“Stealing the fruit of Nimloth”

Twelfth of fifteen new watercolours depicting Tolkien’s Second Age. I hope to finish the series by the end of April.

“Defending Osgiliath”

Eleventh of fifteen new watercolours depicting Tolkien’s Second Age.

Experimenting with rubber masking fluid again for my in-progress Second Age Tolkien illustration. Can anybody guess which scene this is?

“Greenwood the Great”

The tenth of fifteen new watercolours depicting JRR Tolkien’s Second Age.

Bit by bit, there are more clues (or more riddles?): The next Amazon map has just been released. Of course we have highlighted the changes again for you! For the first time, names were deleted from the map (blue). Newly added is highlighted red and changes to the names of places are green. The area it new has been colored yellow.

And then, there is Númenor…

@lotronprime comments the images with: welcome to the second age.

ARMENELOS: Silmariën was not sorry to leave her home for Andustar. If she could not be queen, she would rather be elsewhere. But the city was sad to see her go.

I think at this point my current attitude with regard to the Amazon series is this:

•watchful waiting. We’ll see what this Super Bowl trailer reveals.

• thinking of it as Tolkien-esque or Tolkien-adjacent rather than Tolkien based.

•also thinking of it as fanfic by someone who wants to jump right in to the middle of canon events but isn’t super attached to the actual canon or timeline and really likes to create OCs. And who basically noped on Hugo Weaving’s Elrond.

•at least we may get Howard Shore music, if rumors are accurate.

•my ideas can remain my own and that my headcanons may actually feel more valid after this. And that is a comforting thought.

We have a title.

All done with practical effects as well! https://www.ign.com/articles/lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-title-creation

Not that we didn’t already surmise this but:

The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men….”
