In Super Mario Odyssey, two separate minor code oversights work together to produce a humorous effect: 1. If Mario is sleeping, any object that pushes him around does not actually wake him up from sleep. 2. Mario kicks some objects, like cans and trash bags, automatically upon touching them. This routine does not check if Mario is sleeping, nor does it change his state to awake upon finishing.
Separately, these oversights rarely become relevant in gameplay. However, put together, a scenario such as the one shown in the footage can occur: an object can push a sleeping Mario into a trash bag, causing him to instantaneously wake up to kick away the bag and then just as instantaneously go back to sleep as though nothing happened. Note also that the bird resting on Mario’s nose is startled by Mario kicking.

The final part of the Darker Side gauntlet in Super Mario Odyssey contains a series of power lines that Mario must traverse by capturing a Spark Pylon. These are arranged to spell “THANK YOU” as a way of congratulating the player on clearing the most difficult part of the game.
If glitches are used to gain unintended amounts of height as Glydon so that the area is seen from out of bounds far above, the “U” of the message will not load and the message will appear to spell “THANK YO” instead.
In Bowser’s Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, if a captured Pokio’s beak is stuck to the bottom of a moving wall and the player tilts the Pokio down so its body becomes caught on the platform leading up to the wall as shown in the footage, the Pokio’s beak will extend to an immense length.
Game Reviewers: Super Mario Odyssey might not only be the greatest Mario game ever, but might possibly be one of the greatest games Nintendo ever published.
