LIVE

I’m rewatching the Hunger Games, and it occured to me that Katniss should have just pretended to be in a poly relationship with Peeta and Gale. The capitol would have eaten it up. Snow wouldn’t have been suspicious of Katniss lying about loving Peeta because she and Gale would be right there in the open. The coolness between her and Peeta after the 74th games could be explained away as Katniss trying to soothe over a bit of awkwardness between two new metamours.

I would have loved to see Gale on the tour, stirring up even more revel sentiment while lending emotional support to Katniss and Peeta.

My friend ( @ihavenoideawhyiamhere ) and I were discussing the capitol names and caught this.

Coriolanus was the name of an emperor, whose mother’s name was Volumnia in Shakespeare’s play

Whose first name is Volumnia in the book?

Nono, it’s not Coriolanus Snow’s mother’s name.

The character is VOLUMNIA GAUL!!!!!!

How Suzanne Collins related both of her major vilians to the color white.

And then all the good guys are just darkness and flames and stuff.

I love that so much.

What is yalls favorite book out of the underland chronicles? We love them all, obviously, but my favorite one is the 4th. I know it’s pretty dark with the genocide and all and the major character deaths break my heart every time.

But it’s the only book Gregor enjoys spending time in the Underland. He goes there often and freely.

I feel like we really get to  explore the underland more in this book, as the characters live their more or less normal life for the beginning of the book. The characters are not on an official prophecy journey, but living their lives and then deciding on their own terms what to do.

The characters and their dynamics are well developed and established at that time. I love Ripred and his relationships to Gregor and Luxa and the rest. I love how the dynamic between Luxa and Gregor changes while still being pretty subtle. The dance scene. Howard is being great. Temp gets the recognition he deserves. I just really love that book.

Suzanne Collins is the greatest author because no one else could make me bawl my eyes out over the death of a fictional cockroach.

Suzanne Collins just drops these horrific atrocities of war on her young readers and you know what, I really respect her for it.

The second trailer for The Hunger Games:Mockingjay Part 1 is here http://youtu.be/k4e-qJdEAXo

At the dawn of the reaping, ambitious 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow has a realization: he only has one shot to save his family from destitution and earn eternal glory, and that shot revolves around the victor he’s assigned to mentor in the tenth annual Hunger Games.

The odds are against him - he must mentor the doomed female tribute, Lucy Gray, from District 12, the lowest of the low. What starts as a humiliating assignment quickly turns as his tribute begins surprising them all. Coriolanus and Lucy Gray will need to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver everyone around them - inside and outside the arena - to triumph. But winning has its price.

Set more than 60 years before we meet Katniss Everdeen, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is the terrifying prequel to The Hunger Games series you didn’t know you needed. Check out this heart pounding MCTBA nominee today!

nerdgirl134-dftba:

I just realized how ironic it is that Katniss Everdeen is called the Mockingjay. After all, Mockingjays can only repeat what they’ve heard. And, to the dismay of many, no one could ever control what comes out of Katniss’ mouth.

But totalitarian domination as a form of government is new in that it is not content with this isolation and destroys private life as well. It bases itself on loneliness, on the experience of not belonging to the world at all, which is among the most radical and desperate experiences of man.
(Hannah Arendt on totalitarian regimes)

[…] except in the North there are no words for things like “shopping malls,” “liberty,” or even “love,” at least as the rest of the world knows it. The only true “love” we can express is worship for the Kims, a dynasty of dictators who have ruled North Korea for three generations. […] If you grow up in the West, you may think that romance occurs naturally, but it does not. You learn how to be romantic from books and movies, or from observation. But there was no model to learn from in my parents’ time. They didn’t even have the language to talk about their feelings. You just had to guess how your beloved felt from the look in his eyes, or the tone of her voice when she spoke to you. The most they could do was hold hands secretly.
