A fun bit of dialogue that can be easy to miss. To get this exchange, Max needs to be in your party when you confront Reed Tobson after diverting power to Edgewater and after telling Adelaide that you’ll attempt to get Tobson to step down. Ideally, you need to recruit Max to your crew *after* you retrieve the power regulator, which will allow him to join the active party immediately, and you then can go directly to Tobson. However, if Max is recruited *before* you obtain the regulator, he’ll simply wait to meet you on the Unreliable, and he can’t be added to the party in Edgewater until you depart to the Groundbreaker and then come back, all before confronting Tobson.
Also, for those curious: Max will have this dialogue regardless of if/how his companion quest is resolved.

They have a theme and it’s political and they’re telling us upfront - individuals vs faceless corporations, corporate branding taking a place over - is that not what Fallout is now? A load of branding pasted over something mediocre and that’s what they’re making the central conflict of their small-studio not-Bethesda game? The goddamn audacity. Plus, immediately indicating that people who think ‘games shouldn’t be political’ can fuck off
The absolute crunching on Bethesda after their Fallout 76 fiasco. Bethesda hobbled through their launch, stumbled tragically as bad reviews came in, tripped over a canvas bag, and thousands of customers’ private details spilled out of their pockets. And then Obsidian arrives and puts down a trailer. For a game that’s the same aesthetic - capitalistic branding juxtaposed against a crapsack world with funky creatures in it. Goggles and weapons and midcentury styles. But we know Obsidian can write. Obsidian can design satisfying narratives and memorable NPCs. Obsidian’s game looks way better than the Oblivion zoom-in conversation tech Bethesda is still using. Obsidian’s characters can emote to pull off jokes. Obsidian’s creature designs are fresh and interesting. They can make the Fallout we wanted, not a rehash, not an empty open world that throws franchise pieces at you and pretends to be an experience.
Bethesda just got done showing us they assume we’ll stay on their nuka-cola teats forever because they put a Vault Boy on it, fell on their own face, and Obsidian waited til they were done and stepped forward and put down a trailer for a well-animated vintage-style character-based anti-corporate shooter and I am so excited
someone (me) played through the outer worlds and very inspired and hot for the bastard man (max).

This reminds me of that biotechnology that’s being developed that can be injected straight into a person’s mind, but instead of using it for like, you know, education, pleasure, medicine, etc., they’re planning on using it to torture convicts, making them believe they’ve served a 1000 year sentence.
Phineas explaining anything nonsensical by claiming it’s “science” and locking himself behind bulletproof glass so the player can’t prematurely kill him is Obsidian’s most genius level of self-awareness.
My saloon model inspired by Obsidian’s ‘The Outer Worlds’. The art style of that game is wonderful and I wanted to design a building that would fit inside it.
Playing outer worlds and I finally decided to make a character for it. Soooooo introducing Atlas! Thought the name would make an ironic fit lol. I was going to make her more gruff and sarcastic to fit the world better but like….long bright hair was too much fun to draw asdfghjkl
