Here’s my story from this year’s Chocolate Box exchange! The first fic I’ve managed to post in the time of Covid, sob sob. But I got a great prompt and it helped me get things moving, yay. \o/

Imagine this:
On Cybertron, times before the war, tensions were rising among Cybertronians with the uprising of the rebels group, the Decepticons, lead by the former gladiator, Megatron, and his second in command and archivist, Orion Pax.
With the assassination of Sentinel Prime by Megatron, the council must choose a new Prime, however, to the council’s shock, the new prime was chosen by the matrix itself, which didn’t happened since eons.
But what shoched them the most was the chosen one of the Matrix:
Said chosen turned out to be Starscream, who was mourning Skyfire’s recent “death” and who was as shocked to been choose as the new Prime by the Matrix, sure he was ambitious but never he expected to become a Prime.
As for the council, they were outraged, a warframe, a seeker on top of that, the new Prime? Scandalous!
The council’s objections got shut down by Alpha Trion, who took Starscream under his wing to be his mentor to guide him in his new role as a Prime.
From this turn of events will open new paths for the future of Cybertron and of the Cybertronian race and for the resolution of the civil war we all know too well with the rise of the new autobots leader now know as: Asterius Prime!
AU elements:
-Because he was a warframe and a seekers, Asterius had to work very hard in his first times as a prime to prove himself to had the trust and support of the autobots.
-Asterius Prime(prime!Starscream)’s personality: With the Matrix’s upgrade and Alpha Trion’s guidance, Asterius Prime’s personality is similar to canon Optimus Prime’s, he is a wise and vertious mech who believe that “freedom is the right of all sentient beings”.
-However he is more realistic than Optimus regarding the issue of the war, as much as he want the war to end peacefully, he know that will never happen with Megatron arround, he know that the end of the war will ever happen with either the capture of Megatron, in the best scenario, either with Megatron’s deactivation, in the worst scenario.
-As a leader, Asterius Prime is very capable, having a strong sense of discipline and organisation, he know for his faireness and comprehension but is not a pushover and has a no-nonsense attitude, if things get out off hand among his troups he will not hesitate to use his authority to bring back order.
-As a warrior he is a good strategist and know how to use his soldiers’s abilities at their best which make him a fearsome adversary.
-However, as much as Asterius try the best leader for his army he isn’t without his demons, his guilt over his partner’s “death” and the stress of having the future of Cybertron laying on his shoulders make him a high workalic and a bit fixated on not making any mistakes.
-Asterius Prime(prime!Starscream)’s appearance: With the Matrix’s upgrades, Asterius is taller than from the times he was Starscream, his armor got heavier, he got an helmet similar to RiD Starscream in his “fused” form(final episode “worthy”) with a battle mask, three pairs of wings(giving him a seraphim like appearance) and his voice became smoother and deeper.
-Becoming a prime didn’t make Asterius loose his passion for science and as such he is often involved in the autobots science team’s works and projects.
-Since Starscream became Asterius Prime, the seekers saw the fact that one of them became a prime as a sign of hope for them so when the civil war happened most of the seekers sided with the Autobots instead of the Decepticons.
-Megatron wrongly paint Asterius Prime to his soldiers as a “pompous noble who was no better than the council”.
-In this AU, Orion Pax(Optimus) and Megatron are old friends and founded the Decepticons with Megatron as the leader and Orion as the second in command.
-Orion believed in Megatron’s speeches of a better Cybertron where everyone was equal and free.
-However Orion didn’t approuved of his friend’s brutal methods, Asterius tried multiple times to make him understand that Megatron not the friend he had knew and to convince him to become an autobot or at least to leave the Decepticons and become neutral but Orion was in a “I can fix him” and “he is my friend” mentality and stayed with Megatron.
-The autobots army is the same as in canon.
-At first a bunch of autobots, like Cliffjumper, were wary to had the seekers in the army but with times trust bonds were created and comraderies and friendships were even made.
-Thundercracker and Skywarp in this AU: They were Starscream’s trine when he became Asterius Prime and by so are Autobots too.
-In the Autobots army, they’re Asterius’s most trusted mechs.
-Skywarp get along very well with the lambo twins and is even partners in crime with them when it came to pranks.
-Thundercracker get along with the more calm autobots.
-When Megatron created the Stunticons, they became Orion’s charges.
-He pratically became their “adopted father” at one point, after Megatron begined to neglect the Stunticons, educating and disciplining them with love and care.
-Orion is very appreciated by the rest of the Decepticons as he is a very competent second in command and is one of the very few mechs who can calm down Megatron’s rages.
-Both Orion and Megatron had often arguments about Megatron’s methods.
-When Skyfire was found in the ice by the Decepticons, Megatron manipulated him by telling him that Starscream was dead, killed by Asterius Prime, and convinced him to join the decepticons to avenge Starscream’s death.
-Orion didn’t liked that Megatron used such a lie and this marked the start of the fallout between them.
-The sight of Skyfire being alive but on the decepticons side shook Asterius to his core and had to had the comfort and support of his trinemates to not loose it.
-The truth came out one day during an autobots/decepticons confrontation, the fight happened undergrounds and an accident provoked a rockslide and Asterius and Skyfire got stuck into one of the tunnels.
-In the tunnel Skyfire jumped at Asterius’s troat, the latter didn’t do anything to defend himself which enraged Skyfire and end up screaming at him to fight, to do something and became frustrated to the point he bring up how Asterius killed his best friend.
-This lead to a very emotional talk in which Asterius revealed step by step that Starscream wasn’t dead and he was Starscream.
-When the autobots were finally able to come rescue Asterius they were welcomed by the surprising sight of their leader, holding in his arms Skyfire who was tearfully repeating “You’re alive! You’re alive! Oh I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”, with tears in his optics.
-Skyfire was took to the Ark as a “prisonner” and after interrogation he asked to join the autobots as he was furious at Megatron to had lied to him to use him to try to kill his best friend.
-Of course since he was formerly a decepticons his first times among the autobots were hard, but thanks to Asterius’s and a few autobots support, he end up gaining the rest of the autobots’s trust with time.
-Asterius and Skyfire doing science stuff together when they can.
-The aerialbolts are personaly trained by the seekers and Asterius, making them way better flyers than in the canon.
-At a raid which was stopped by the autobots Orion and Megatron got into another dispute which lead Megatron to accidentally serverely injured Orion in a exces of anger and Megatron, from the shock of what he had done and because of the autobots closing in, ordered his troopes to retreat, leaving Orion behind.
-When the Autobots find Orion, he was brought to the Ark to be treated by Ratchet.
-After Orion was brough to the med bay, however, they got alerted by Red Alert that the Stunticons were in front of the Ark and were screaming.
-The Stunticons weren’t present at the last raid so when they learned that Orion was injured and took prisonner by the autobots, they impulsively left the Nemesis to go saved him despite Megatron’s angry orders to come back.
-And here they were in front of the Ark screaming and demanding the autobots to “give them Orion back”.
-The autobots got no other choices but to put the Stunticons in the brig.
-Megatron calling the autobots to demand that they “give back” Orion and the Stunticons but the autobots had to refused since Orion wasn’t healed enough to leave the med bay and the Stunticons refused to leave without Orion.
-During his recovery, Orion had a long reflection about what happened and this made him realized that the Megatron he once called his friend was no more.
-Once he was fully healed he had a talk with Asterius Prime and the autobots officiers and suprised them when he ask Asterius if the proposion to become an autobot was still up ‘cause he wanted to accept it.
-During the talk about the conditions of his defection to the autobots, Orion asked only one condition: that the Stunticons were join the autobots with him as they are his charges and doesn’t want to abandon them.
-After some hesitations, Asterius and his officiers accepted the condition but only if the Stunticons wished to defect.
-When Orion talked to the Stunticons about his decision to defect to the autobots, the combiner team decided to defect with him without any second thought, Orion was the only one among the decepticons who actually give a frag about them despite them being a bunch of “glitch heads” so wherever Orion go they go too.
-At the decepticon, when Megatron learned about his friend’s and the Stunticons’s defection to the autobots something in him broke, he was in rage against Orion, the autobots, Asterius and himself.
-He was feeling very guilty for having hurt Orion and knew it was his fault if Orion left but is way too prideful to admit it and just declared Orion and the Stunticons as traitors to the decepticons cause.
-As for the rest of the decepticons, they were now unsure about Megatron’s credibility as a leader, after all was somebot who injured his most competent and loyal soldier and don’t hesitate to calling them traitors really reliable as a leader?
The bottom of the box holds a treat - the entire Constructicon team, combining to form the classic Devastator. Predating the more standardized “Scramble City” style combiners which are all 5-bot teams with a larger one forming the torso and four others forming interchangeable limbs, Devastator (who was originally the Diaclone “Construction Vehicle Robo” team) is made of six parts, all of which are unique and have some very weird ad-hoc connection methods. To make it all work they come with a bunch of extra parts, most of which can be repurposed to change the vehicles into “Attack Modes” with oversized weaponry or wings.
The individual Constructicons (L-R: Bonecrusher, Scavenger, Scrapper, Hook, Long Haul, and Mixmaster) are a mixed bag with some having simple, stiff transformations and other being more complex. Putting them all together can be a bit fiddly, but they hold up pretty well once combined (though a few joints on mine are a little loose after 30 years).
It’s time for TECHNOBOTS, combining to form the mighty COMPUTRON!
Led by the previously-profiled Scattershot, L-R at the top we have Nosecone, Strafe, Afterburner, and Lightspeed. As usual for G1 “scramble city” style combiners, the four smaller bots look great in vehicle mode and a bit clunky as bots, and each can be used as any limb of the combined form. The first pic of Computron is done as per the instruction booklet, while the second is more like a pic found on tfwiki, with the leg bots flipped around and extended for a slightly taller stance, and a few more weapons attached. Bonus pic of Computron and our previous combiner Abominus mugging in bad lighting.
Smokescreen, one of my oldest Transformers and my only one of the original G1 cars. He’s adapted from the same Diaclone base as Bluestreak and Prowl, and transforms into a Datsun 280ZX, aka Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan. Smokescreen’s deco is based on Don Devendorf’s Electramotive team racer. (Thanks for tfwiki and transformerland for that trivia.)
Like some other Diaclone originals, his transformation is more fiddly than other G1 bots and some parts are a little fragile. He also has a bunch of die-cast metal, though, which gives him some heft, and his arms are way better articulated than most.
Some sources claim only the Japanese release had spring-loaded missiles in the shoulder cannons, but mine has ‘em, so maybe they were in an early US release too before Hasbro removed them for safety reasons.
