Lenticular Clouds over the Desert

Mar. 9, 2022

We’ve had one high OR day after another following two days of snow last weekend. There have been few planes, and sleeping has been great. Today in the distance to the east over the Antelope Valley we saw lenticular clouds. Daytime temperatures have been in the high 40s and overnight lows have been in the mid-20s.

The energy has been very high, giving us cold, crisp days and the peaceful feeling we have in the fall before the snow starts. This may be because the Sierras are forecast to get snow tomorrow and hopefully Kern County mountains will also benefit from the precipitation coming in.

So when you factor in windchill, it’s -32°C where I am. I just had to take my garbage bin to the alley, and I legit had a pair of socks, combat boots, two pairs of paints, 2 shirts, a massive sweater, a jacket, a toque (a beanie but Canadian?), and heavy duty work gloves. My ears are frozen and my fingers are cold.

Anyone else prefer this to sweltering summers though? I have a hard time cooling down, but easier time warming up.

Check in! After the tornados are you all safe?

I didn’t even know until just now. I’m sorry I didn’t ask sooner.

Date idea: going out for a drive in the crisp almost fall weather. No jacket needed but when they offer you take it anyways.

pronunciation | ‘kI-ros (KYE-ross, English); kEr-'os (keer-OSS, Greek)
Greek | καιρός
note | Kairos is both a rhetorical term for “the opportune moment” (as above) and the word for “weather”.

  1. Free Condom Fridays! I’m involved with a Planned Parenthood club on campus that hand out condoms on Fridays, for free! I did it for the first time today and it was really fun. The weather was especially nice as well.image

  2. Foggy morning (and evening) weather! The weather here has been nuts. The mornings are extremely foggy, so thick that you can’t see 80 yards away. It lasts until noon-ish, and comes back around 5. It’s currently 6:40 pm and I can barely see out my window!image

  3. Chai Tea Lattes. I’m not a coffee drinker - it makes my head hurt, my stomach hurt, and leaves a disgusting aftertaste for hours! Chai tea lattes are what make life good. My roommate and one of our friends went to this cute Italian coffee shop downtown, and I ordered this delicious latte. We studied there for two hours, so I ordered some toasted Ciabatta bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, which was also great! image

  4. Fall. I’ve never really been a person to enjoy fall (crazy, right?) but this year I have come to really love it! I’m not as cold constantly as I used to be (I should look into why) so I’m much more comfortable with the weather. Thankfully it hasn’t rained very often here. The sun always comes out and the leaves are such a beautiful color! The wind is rare (for now) and the air is nice and crisp. I’m digging it. image

  5. Sparkling Cider just because in some Lilly. I bought these two Lilly Pulitzer cups over summer at TJ Maxx for only $10! I fell in love and knew I wanted them. On a recent Walmart trip, I picked up some sparkling cider (it was only $2!)! I am a huge fan of sparkling cider - I love the taste and carbonation, not to mention how fancy you feel drinking it. I felt especially preppy (heheh) drinking it out of my Lilly cups!

Those are my favorite things about this week! A lot of good happened this week. I’m trying to look more at all the positive things about life. Small things are what make up the big things. Cheers!

I dedicate the present retablos to the Virgin of the Solitude for saving our lives, when we were struck by a lightning, and the deck got on fire, and we were under the threat of shipwreck. We implored to save our lives, and, since we were saved, we now dedicate this retablo.

I was sowing the field when suddenly a horrible tornado was formed. I entrusted myself to Saint Jude Thaddeus, and little by little the tornado disappeared. I thank him for that with this humble retablo.
