WOT FIC: A Sword-Arm and Confidant (Moiraine, Lan, 1.4k)

A Sword-Arm and Confidant: Moiraine, Lan, their friendship, and the aftermath of 1x08

(spoilers for the entire season)

“It’scuendillar,” Moiraine explained.

Lan took the white fragment from Moiraine’s hand. He said, “I thought heartstone couldn’t be scratched,” and lifted it toward the faint dregs of morning light reaching into the Eye. It almost seemed to shine. “That nothing—not even the One Power—could break it.”

“So did I.”

“What does it mean?”

Moiraine looked at the ruined mosaic on the floor. It was the ancient symbol of the Aes Sedai, though the people of this Age separated it into the White Flame and the Dragonfang. Created from a substance believed indestructible, it had lain untouched at the Eye for three thousand years. Now, it was blistered and cracked from the sheer force of Rand’s power.

It should have been impossible. Perhaps Rand was impossible.

“That this wasn’t the Last Battle,” Moiraine confessed. She had miscalculated somewhere, misread the evidence she had so carefully compiled over the last twenty years. “I fear it was the first.”

WOT FIC: Snow and Blood (Something Impossible) [Rand, Moiraine, 1.4k)

Snow and Blood (Something Impossible): Rand, Moiraine, gen

(A missing conversation from 1x07; spoilers for the show thus far)

Rand paused outside Moiraine’s door.

For the tenth time—or perhaps the twentieth, the fiftieth—he considered running away from all of this. If he found a horse, he could be leagues from Fal Dara before sunrise. Whatever the voices said, there had to be somewhere he could go, somewhere without cities or people or Aes Sedai. The thought of leaving Egwene had his stomach in knots, but the Eye would be dangerous. He was dangerous.

He’d seen a map of the Westlands once, stacked among the books on Padan Fain’s cart. There had been so many blank spaces, places he could hide until—

Until the dreams came again, or a Fade found him as he slept. Until another Darkfriend tried to put a knife between his ribs.

Or until I go mad.

We all want the Seanchan to have Texan accents because it’s amusingly incongruous per the conventions of fantasy visual media and we’ve been waiting years for that shoe to drop, but also…I am increasingly amazed at the magnitude of the time-bomb Jordan left for a visual adaptation by making the chattel slaver culture have Southern American accents. While it’s something that can largely be ignored on the page, in a TV show it’s going to be really, really obvious. Given the way people have already lost their minds about the show’s casting and the media rhetoric around this part of American history in the last five years…oh boy.

I was talking to a friend about the way the Aiel are being cast as Irish alongside the Tuatha’an (going by the Aviendha casting) and it reminded me that actually there is ALREADY one Texan actress almost certainly cast in WoT….and she was spotted with half her head shaved, implying she’s playing a Seanchan.

RAFE JUST ANNOUNCED AYOOLA SMART AS AVIENDHA!!!!!!!

Congrats, Ayoola, we are so so lucky to have you!!

I’m thinking about how Moiraine always has to become the person she was never ready nor taught to become.

She left the Tower in a very young age, knowing nothing about living on the road, she was a noble woman, not a wanderer, but there she was, on the road, learning everything, with no one to show her.

She was an Aes Sedai for only few months, she had no experience, she left before she was able to learn.

And after all these years, when she finally managed the role or an Aes Sedai, the searcher of the Dragon, she had to become a mentor, she had to lead. And that was another thing she was not prepared for. The only two people in her life for 20 years were Siuan and Lan, she never had to lead them, teach them, protect them from their own naivety, show them the way. Suddenly she became a mentor, and again there’s no time for her to learn, no space for mistakes.

And every conversation with the kids, every argument they have, every worry and uncertainty we see on their faces, those are the emotions Moiraine has all the right to feel too, to know them well, but she could never show them. She had to overcome them on her own, with no one to guide her, no one to look up to. What is happening is as new to her as it is for the kids but she has to be strong not only for herself this time but also for them. Being a guide is difficult, and she became one suddenly, despite the fact she never wanted to be one. Just like she didn’t want to give up her life and people she loved for endless travels from village to village, for constant fear of being caught, of failing, of being too late.

But the wheel called her, and she has to bear it now.

Since my last fanart of Siuanraine got so much positive feedback and recognition (btw, thank you all so so much, it really makes my days ) I decided to share more of my artworks with you because light knows I’ve made a lot WoT themed stuff already ^^

I‘m currently working on a series with multiple juicy sketches of our favourite kittens (yeah you heard me, this is not the first and def not the last one) and I wanted to share a WIP of my current one. It‘s not finished yet and I gotta work on my anatomy but I hope this still brightens your day a little bit

Gif from episode 5 of The Wheel of Time. It shows an overhead shot of Lan laying the dead King of Ghealdean into a grave, then switches to a close-up of Lan laying the King's helmet on his body.
A gif from episode 5 of The Wheel of Time. It shows Lan, kneeling, lifting his hand in front of his face.

blackandwhitecircus:

I am listening to The Eye of the World currently after the show got me interested and…the further I get the more I am baffled by their weird who-could-be-the-dragon-shellgame. Why would you add that element to the story, you didn’t have to do that and it added next to nothing.

magistra-perplicata:

I’m sorry this blog has become a certified Moiraine stan account but also I’m extremely not sorry
