Greece: The riot police has declared war against students & the situation is about to explode

Scenes of the Greek Riot Police rampage across the streets of Thessaloniki, on Thursday 26 May 2022, are nothing but a glimpse of what’s been happening, almost daily, for more than a month and a half in this northern greek city and the situation is about to explode and spread across universities all over Greece.

In an attempt to appeal to the amalgam of its right wing, far right and neoliberal voters that hate free public education and the free movement of ideas that it entails, the right wing government of so-called “New Democracy” has established the daily presence of an army of riot cops in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (ΑΠΘ). The police invaders, dressed like soldiers in khakis, along with all their lethal equipment, guns and bullets, flash –bang grenades, batons and asphyxiating gas grenades have been brutally attacking the academic community almost daily, like a criminal gang that tries to take over an area and establish its dominance through a terror campaign, violence and the spread of fear.

Attacks with batons and asphyxiating gas, throwing flash-bang grenades in closed spaces to cause hearing loss dragging students on the pavement to arrest them, firing flash-bang grenades with gun launchers at point blank in the faces of students is just part of a chaotic daily imagery in the University in Thessaloniki with a purpose. To quell any thoughts of protest to the government’s unprecedented plan to establish police stations inside universities campuses all over Greece, a plan that will be put into action in June 2022.

Thus, the images from Thessaloniki are both an experiment and an insight into the future of higher education institutions in Greece. But so is resistance. And the might of the giant that is the greek student movement when it finally awakes.

(Thursday, 26 May 2022) Riot cops shoot students with flash-bang and teargas grenade launchers at point blank inside the university campus.

There has been so much police violence almost every day, for more than a month, by the rectorial authorities of the Aristotelian University in Thessaloniki and the greek riot police against the university community, that the only thing that is certain is the necessity of having a university asylum, where the police cannot enter.

The situation with the paroxysmal violence of the riot police inside the AUT, (ΑΠΘ) has gone out of control. The images from Thessaloniki are both an experiment and an insight into the future of higher education institutions in Greece. The ideal of the free movement of ideas in universities - although never implemented - has been replaced by the violent movement of the police, along with all their lethal equipment, guns and bullets, flash –bang grenades, batons and asphyxiation gas. In essence, the Golden Dawn neonazi party and the rest of the fascist flock in Greece, (more than 50% of cops are voters of fascist parties in Greece), armed and free to commit acts of grave violence, have entered the universities through the “back door”.

Armed cops with guns, dressed like soldiers in khaki inside a university campus, attacking students on a rampage, because students protest against the establishment of actual police stations with armies of policemen inside the greek universities, a law that will be put into action in few weeks from today. This is the same right wing regime of “New Democracy” that has managed with its actions to place Greece in the last place regarding the Freedom of the Press in the European Union and the same right-wing regime that is planning a law to quash Freedom of Speech on greek social media.

Guernica 2.0. : Oops they did it again, (23 Μαίου 2022)

Γνωστές - άγνωστες καλλιτέχνιδες της Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών έφεραν εκ νέου την Guernica στην Πρυτανεία του ΑΠΘ.

Ακολουθεί το υπόμνημα που άφησαν στον άλλοτε άσπρο τοίχο:

“Άγνωστος/-οι καλλιτέχνης/-ες “Guernica”, 03/03/21

Πλαστικό χρώμα και σπρέι, τοιχογραφία στα πλαίσια της κατάληψης του κτιρίου της Πρυτανείας (22/02/21-11/03/21) που πραγματοποιήθηκε ως ένδειξη διαμαρτυρίας στον νόμο 4777.

Μια πρώτη, επιφανειακή (ίσως πιο πιασάρικη) περιγραφή του έργου θα ήταν «μία διαφορετική Γκερνίκα», ή «η δική μας Γκερνίκα». Στην πραγματικότητα όμως πρόκειται για κάτι μεγαλύτερο από μια απλή παραλλαγή του γνωστού έργου του Πικάσο.

18 μέρες οξυγόνου. Οι μέρες που τολμήσαμε το ακατόρθωτο, που μέσα στον ζόφο δημιουργήσαμε χώρο να αναπνεύσουμε. Οι μέρες που η ανάγκη για ζωή υπερίσχυσε όλων των (ανα)στολών. Και των καταστολών. Οι μέρες που στα μάτια μας η πόλη μεταμορφώθηκε σε σκακιέρα (μπορείτε να φανταστείτε εσείς ποιοι παίζαν στα λευκά και ποιοι στα μαύρα). Οι μέρες που τα πινέλα μας πάνω στους τοίχους τους έκαναν πιο πολύ θόρυβο απ’ ότι τα γκλοπ τους πάνω μας. Αυτές οι μέρες ήταν δικές μας και αυτό ήταν το αποτύπωμα μας.

Η τοιχογραφία παραμένει επίκαιρη και φέτος, γι’ αυτό έναν χρόνο μετά τρέξατε να την καλύψετε με το αποστειρωμένο λευκό σας, αποδεικνύοντας για άλλη μια φορά πόσο ανίκανοι είστε να αναλάβετε τις ευθύνες των πράξεων σας. Αφού λοιπόν δεν ντραπήκατε να ξανακαταστρέψετε ένα έργο επειδή αναδεικνύει τα εγκλήματά σας, το κάδρο αυτό θα είναι εδώ για να σας θυμίζει πως τίποτα δεν τελειώνει με μια απλή εκκένωση. Τον τελευταίο λόγο θα τον έχουμε πάντα εμείς.

Για εκείνες τις ημέρες μας και για όλες αυτές που θα ‘ρθουν”.

*** Υπενθυμίζεται ότι τον Μάρτιο του 2021, φοιτητές και φοιτήτριες από τη σχολή καλών τεχνών ζωγράφισαν σε τοίχο της εισόδου της πρυτανείας του ΑΠΘ ένα αντίγραφο του περίφημου πίνακα του Πικάσο, που είχε όμως ως βάση την πρόσφατη τότε δράση των δυνάμεων καταστολής στην εκκένωση της κατάληψης πρυτανείας και τις βαρβαρότητες που ακολούθησαν, σε αγαστή συνεργασία με τον πρύτανη. Αυτή η τοιχογραφία καταστράφηκε με εντολή του πρύτανη αποδεικνύοντας πως η τέχνη μπορεί να γίνει ενοχλητική για την εξουσία.
