oldfilmsflicker:

“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night may be my film of the year (it’s a close contest with Locke). But it’s not enough to say it’s superior to bogus conflations like InterstellarandGone Girl, or the contrived, studious do-goodism of Masterpiece Theatre pictures such as The Theory of EverythingandThe Imitation Game. Those comparisons only flatter the mainstream pictures, and dull the dirty radiance of this first feature film, written and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour. It’s not even that she has tossed off a casual masterpiece fit to live beside the best work of her evident forebear, David Lynch. No, A Girl is to be judged on a higher plane still, one that includes the visions of Jean Vigo, Jean Cocteau, and Luis Buñuel. This is a dream on your screen, absurd, languid (if not slow), and possessed by the calm of an inevitable beauty. This is what cinema was invented for, a rapture in the school of the surreal, indifferent to the time-wasting fallacy that movies have, or should have, anything to do with realism.“ - David Thomson [x]

Movie Trailer: Iranian vampire tale ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’

Sheila Vand of “Argo” stars as the nameless lead of “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night,” set for a November 21 release.

Blending conventions from classic horror, spaghetti western and romantic drama, the trailer for “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night” shows one reason why an Iranian town might be losing its luster — a vampire haunts its unsuspecting streets.

The 99-minute black and white feature already won the Revelations Prize at this year’s Deauville American Film Festival (previous awards went to the directors of “Fruitvale Station” and “Holy Rollers”), having enjoyed a good critical reception at Sundance in January.

Set in Iran but shot on location in California, Ana Lily Amirpour’s film is being promoted by US specialist distributor Kino Lorber and Vice Magazine’s film arm; in an August interview, co-founder Richard Lorber told Variety that he saw Amirpour as being comparable to David Lynch and Jim Jarmusch.

Two premiere screenings have been arranged for November 21, one in Los Angeles and the other in New York, while Amirpour has produced a six-issue comic book series in collaboration with graphist Michael DeWeese (“Art of War”) for distribution through the Comixology platform.

quick doodle obsessed with her vibes

[ID: a simple black and white drawing of the vampire from a girl walks home alone at night. she’s a pale woman wearing a black chador and a black and white striped shirt, and she is skateboarding down the sidewalk beneath a black sky. a thin outline separates the sky from her clothing. apart from her eyes, the whites of the drawing are dimmed down to gray to suggest nighttime.]
