i still like my first try at making a doll of this character a lot (see previous post), especially his grin and his manic energy, which reminds me more of this master at his reveal in Spyfall1

but i found out he didn’t look right with my Thirteen, due to head-sizes and also height. since i’d already ordered a live-action aladdin JAFAR doll off disney store clearance as a backup plan, i decided why not make a second dhawan!m doll.

i feel like this second one has the more melancholy energy that shows up in Spyfall2.

this was a pretty complex custom by my standards:

• hair: sculpted out of heatmold plastic.
• face: sealed, overpainted for shading and vague likeness to the actor (also vague stubble and eyebrows ‘texture’), sealed again.
• beard: flocking (several coats)
• body: hot toys normal size (as opposed to slim ones that i usually use) to match the head size better… plus a little padding. 
• hands from unknown action figure (somewhat tinted to match)
• clothes: mostly from various action figures, but his purple top was made by a seamstress for tonner women dolls.
• ‘secret’ mods: (1) scars on his arm/shoulder from getting shot at the expo in Spyfall2. (2) bad leg from some stuff that happened in Paris that was in my fic but not in Spyfall2. the doll’s ankle is at a wrong angle because a repair i made kept setting wrong and i knew some pretty bad injury happened to him while getting away from the soldiers, so i was like hey might as well use this. his right shoe has additions on the bottom so he can stand level.
• steampunkish gadgets just for fun… made from alice in wonderland merch

i’m not an expert at this yet but if anyone wants to talk about doll modding or how to make your own dw characters, i am happy to message about any of that, and can rec you other doll-modding people to follow or chat with, who, like, actually know what they’re doing ;)

if you just want to shout about dr/m that’s great too :D

inspired by the fact that my ainley stand-in didn’t look enough like the actor, by furries the last story of classic who (SURVIVAL), and probably by that one custom barbie that @dollsahoy did ages ago… googled up some cheetah photos and painted this fellow in like an hour the other day.

(in actual seriousness, though, respect for furries and the levels of detail they go to w costuming)

3rd time’s a charm?

finally ready to show my new version of Dhawan!m, using a 3d-printed headsculpt by @modernwizard(message her for the link if you want to buy one - she also has just finished a Missy headsculpt which i’m gonna get next!)

i did the hair with heatmold plastic and of course painted the face, which took the longest. i think this is the first time i have ever painted a fig or doll from the primer up (instead of starting from an existing paint job or at least a vinyl color in the case of aziraphale), so that was an experience. i guess i am way less scared to do so again, in fact it’s kind of addictive?

the doctor, a person of science, faces the revelation that her earliest self was abused by her adopted mother in the name of science, and that if not for this, her entire species wouldn’t exist as they do

what is the child thinking? we may never know

they say that part of growing up is learning to parent yourself, to fix some of what your actual parents got wrong.
