Young blue stars circling the galactic center dominate the Andromeda Galaxy in this image taken in ultraviolet! About 2.5 million light-years away, the Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, really is our galactic neighbour. Spanning about 230,000 light-years, it took 11 different image fields from NASA’s Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) satellite telescope to produce this gorgeous portrait of the spiral galaxy in ultraviolet light in 2003. Its spiral arms stand out in visible light images, Andromeda’s arms are sites of intense star formation. They have been interpreted as evidence that Andromeda collided with its smaller neighboring elliptical galaxy M32 more than 200 million years ago. The Andromeda galaxy and our own comparable Milky Way galaxy are the most massive members of the Local Group of galaxies and are projected to collide in several billion years – perhaps around the time that our Sun’s atmosphere will expand to engulf the Earth.

*sigh* I was looking forward to this game, like a lot. I almost convinced myself to buy it just for the multiplayer, that would be an insult to every artist that works hard on their games. Like the great work done in Watch Dogs 2 cutscenes. Those are amazing and people rarely bring them up. Not to mention the writing in this game is very bad, like a competent fan fiction at best. That being said, what drove me to draw this was this scene.

I only wish it was well animated ‘cause the voice acting is on point. I won’t buy this game at full price, may eventually get it IF most of the bugs are fixed. I don’t expect them to fix the animations 'cause they’ve clearly shown their lack of respect for the art.

The Milky Way Might Never Become An Elliptical Galaxy

“We will continue to slowly form new stars for many trillions of years. Our Local Group won’t become “red and dead” for many times the present age of the Universe. And, perhaps most importantly, we’ll still have a Milky Way-like feature in the night sky of whatever planets are around in the far future. There may come a day where our spiral features are no more. But since the turn of the century, we’ve learned that day won’t come when the Milky Way and Andromeda merge, but rather much farther out into the distant future.”

In about 4 billion years, the Milky Way and Andromeda will merge. Gravitational interactions will trigger the collapse of gas, new stars will form, stellar winds will blow, gas will get ejected, stars will be gravitationally disrupted, and our galaxy will transition from a spiral to an elliptical. Devoid of gas, our post-merger galaxy, now named Milkdromeda, will become what’s known as “red and dead.”

Only, that was the story 20 years ago, and those last parts of it aren’t true! As it turns out, we’re unlikely to become an elliptical galaxy. Here’s what we’ve learned will happen instead.

The Milky Way contains around three hundred billion stars, and the Andromeda galaxy is over twice as massive with a trillion stars, but the space between stars is so immense that any kind of direct collision is near impossible. Space is big

Hey all,

I’m Robert Hewitt Wolfe, writer of things like #Elementary #StarTrek #DS9 #Andromeda, etc etc, and author of the BILLY SMITH AND THE GOBLINS books.

I may end up moving here from Twitter if Grimes’ Baby Daddy lets the Orange Menace back onto Twitter. Because eff that noise. I’m not providing content to support that nonsense.

If you have questions about #TVWriting #NovelWriting or any of that kind of thing, feel free to ask and I’ll answer (assuming that’s even a thing on Tumblr).

I also talk about geek culture in general. Comic books, TTRPGs, all that kind of thing.

This has been a test of the Emergency Twitter Escapee Broadcasting Network.

Περσευς

Perseus was one of the most celebrated heroes of Greek mythology.
He was the son of the Argive princess Danae who was locked away in a bronze chamber by her father Akrisios who lived in fear of a prophecy that he would one day be killed by her son. The god Zeus, however, infiltrated her prison in the guise of a golden shower and impreganted her. When Akrisios discovered the child, he placed the two in a chest and set them adrift at the sea. They were carried safely to the island of Seriphos where they were offered refuge by the kindly, fisherman Diktys.
When Perseus was fully grown, King Polydektes commanded he fetch the head of Medusa. With the help of the gods, Perseus obtained winged sandals, an invisible helm and a magical sword. He then sought out the ancient Graiai and stealing their single eye compelled them to reveal the location of the Gorgones. Perseus approached Medusa as she slept and beheaded her with eyes averted to avoid her petrifying visage.
On his journey back to Greece, Perseus came across the Ethiopian princess Andromeda chained to a rock as a sacrifice to a sea-monster. He slew the beast and brought her with him back to Greece as his bride.
Perseus was the ancestor of the royal houses of Mykenai, Elis, Sparta, Messenia, and distant Persia. His most famous descendant was Herakles.
