Hey guys! I’ve been mia for some time, sorry for that :( I’ve been doing some sketches but im kinda feeling a bit blocked ugh Anyway here’s some quick sketches of Ares and Aphrodite. Do send me some artwork suggestions of gods!
Also on a more positive note: have you seen the announcement of the new series from BBC ‘Troy’? I’m excited to watch it tonight! I’ll let you know what I think!
Apollon in the building! (or shall I say the pantheon? I’ll go home)
I am so glad that I did a redesign for him and Artemis! I already had designs for them. They stayed the same for 3 years I think. But I wasn’t quite satisfied with them, because they didnt really look like twins. I made them as different from eachother as sun and moon, but I didnt like it anymore because of that. I’ll explain my vision on them more when I finish Artemis (she’s up next, and I am really happy with her design so far, so I cant wait to show you guys!). I’ll also do a comparison of the old and new designs. So keep an eye out for that!
Apollo: Son of Zeus, twin brother of Artemis. God of music, healing, light (sun) and truth, prophecy and oracles.
You’ll probably see a lot of ‘green flames’ with him. It is part of my vision on him as ‘the God of prophecy and oracles’. I’d like to pay as much attention on it as him being ‘the God of light (the sun)’

Hecate, Chthonian goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, the moon, ghosts, … Im not that good at pencil and watercolor drawings haha. The underworld deities are my favourites. Im still looking for an interesting look and feel to connect all of their designs. This is my current character design for Hecate, but I might change her later. I like her, but I feel like she is lacking a crucial Hecate feel.

I don’t remember if I ever re-shared this illustration since I finished it more than 2 years ago, maybe because I had a hard time with it. The thing is that after finishing it and after lots of hours of work (as you can guess by the level of detail), I experimented a bit on it and ruined the original piece (maybe some of you remember back then the stories when I messed it up, I almost cried ). I still have it in a binder but it seems unfixable and in no way suitable for selling or having it in an exhibition. So I worked a lot on it, it was one of my best pieces so far, and completly ruined the illustration. It happens, sometimes you throw away days of work because of an accident or bad time experimentation. Part of the job… That’s why staring at it gives me a bittersweet taste.
At least I was smart enough to scan the piece before doing the stupid experiment, so even if I never get to sell the original, at least I can make prints and get with them a bit of the time and work earned back.

And not regular prints, since the prints of this piece are limited and all of them have hand-drawn golden ink embellishments added. So each print is unique, and they come with a card with the short tale I wrote for this illustration!

This is one of the last commissions I completed early this year, before taking a break from them for a while. I loved the concept - a depiction of the lunar goddess, Artemis. But it was also a challenge to match this design to the style and colour palette of the client’s pre-existing tattoo they wished to pair with it (one of the goddess Athena). A great experience and a lovely client to work with. Here’s some detail shots at the first line art stage. xo
