Abstract Advent: Week 1
After completing Inktober for the last two years I took a well-deserved rest this year, but am taking part in the slightly shorter ‘Abstract Advent’ as run by @artpedagogy, like an abstract advent calendar but on Instagram – so it runs from the 1st of December to the 24th. Unlike the word prompts of Inktober, he provides a shape for you to work from or adapt, and you can work in any media…
I recently had the very great privilege to create a ketubah for the wedding of two of my best friends, and now that the wedding is over I feel that I can share the finished product. Done in brush and ink (with micron pens for the border lines and a dip pen for the lettering) on arches watercolor paper, the design stylistically inspired by William Morris’s designs for Kelmscott press.
I included not only pictures taken in-progress, but also the original digital concept sketch so you can see how it changed from the first idea to the finished inks.

I made this for my buddy as a present but forgot to take a picture when I finished it…. -__-;
note- Not sure why the image is showing up lookin’ all low res but it seems kinda on brand at this point :/

I’m pretty sure I won’t make the whole challenge… I can make up robots till Kingdom Come, but aquatic ladies are a lot harder for me. But let’s see, last year I made about seven days.
