Sometimes it is a little itch that I have when studying classical art and going further that road leads to sometimes satisfying results as this.

I always liked the raw design of Cherno Alpha, it is recognizable and somehow it fitted this rocky coast so well. His appearance was so short, now he lives on forever in this tribute-painting ;)

The last week and the current events really got me thinking and I‘m honestly out of words. Sorry for my absence the last week.
It is really difficult to do „your thing“ when the world around you crumbles. It even makes you questioning the purpose of everything.
But if there is something we can learn out of the situation, it should be that we need to keep talking, and fighting and learning and we need to share our passion, because together we are strong. There will never be an ideal world, and therefore we have to fight every single day.
The struggle is real and it will not go away.

Revosited that piece that got it all started - swipe to see the first version from 2014

People mistook the creature for Groot (was painted before GotG) so I decided to „draw this again“ and paint what there should be and since Groot alone would be boring I added a crashed Benatar to this Albert Bierstadt landscape ;)

All in all ot was harder than it looks to match the rough structure and painting style, but lots of fun nonetheless.
And in case you wonder why Groot is so big, I‘d love to read your story about it

Long time no talk. It seems like the world has stopped for the unforeseeable future. Personally I see that as an opportunity to create many new works and studies.
.
Here I start with a painting study of Ciri from the Witcher. First off: I just watched the series, but I tend to like the gane version of her more, I know it has to do with the timeline… however, where many of my other pieces are actually based on classic art pieces, this was not based on another work, I just wanted to achieve a classical look with sfumato and a variety on the edges up to the limited palette of 1900 paintings.

I really enjoyed that and can imagine doing FFVII - characters in that style as well;) Anyone else looking forward to FFVII remake?

Finally I got to upload this one, a new Ghibli-homage!

I already have finished this in time for the Comic Con in Dortmund and it was received really well. I wanted to upload it here much earlier but there is a lot to do in the house at the moment with renovations and I also get a new place for production and finishing of my canvas prints - some extra 120 square meter production-and-storage space
Those unfortunately do not setup themselves, so I have to do everything in between orders and preparations for MCC ( Leipzig Book Fair) in March.

Back to this piece: it is based again on a wonderful forest painting by Ivan Shishkin from around 1891 (if I’m not mistaken). It was a joy to explore his strokes and composition, and it screamed for a Catbus and his friends

Just watched Captain Marvel a few days ago and the story about Nick Fury and Goose (Chewie in the Comic) struck and chased me for days, in fact so much that I had to do this painting. Mainly because one of our cats look exactly like Goose
.
This piece is based on a painting from Philip Alexius de László from 1923 but it served rather as inspiration for the strokes, lighting and the general mood I wanted to achieve.

A Warhammer 40K Titan stranded on what appears to be Cornwall painted by William Trost Richards from 1879.

Finished this one for the Spiel fair which was right around the corner 4 weeks ago and I have been working on backorders since then, very busy times…

The composition of this Trost-Richards piece invited me to create many elliptic enclosures. If you follow my work closely you should know by now that I build upon the tricks from the art I work with, this one is no exception and this is also the reason those pieces take so long to paint / re-paint.
.
The piece also needs the dreadnoughts to show the scale of the titan.
.
As far as credits go, I worked with the 3d-Model of this Warlord Titan from Stroganoff as base for the painting: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2947596 and I looked at references for the smaller figures.

I saw that @artwithbryn did a lot of pokémon-classic mashups and thought I upload my version from a few years ago
.
In this piece I had to recreate the whole painting as most sources where nearly unusable and I believe even the original looks unfinished in parts of the background. I tried to build a story with the little creatures around it that is slightly different than the actual story of Circe.
.
In the original painting called Circe Invidiosa Waterhouse meant to display greek mythology in which Circe was about to poison the water to turn Scylla into a monster. What lies closer to this than to add monsters to this painting that are starving for some kind of elixir?

There is also a workshop about composition on my Gumroad, the firdt book is free to download. The workshop will contain a PDF guide, some process GIF’s and a mid-res version of this piece.

New post but actually finished last year and I feel it is more fitting today than when I worked on it which was around February 2021. Back then, it was my way of channeling the Corona crisis in an artistic way.

This one was informed and inspired by the work of Adolph Tidemand + Hans Gude from 1848 and of course the wonderful work of Sergey Orlyanski https://www.artstation.com/artwork/PPJ4r
I took the liberty to create something new out of this landscape that is occupied by an actual procession that looked like a marriage. That this piece was created in the midst of the Corona-crisis, is most visible on the clothes of the group on the boat. It is not as dark and grim, it should also reflect hope with whatever is going on at the far horizon like the group of people is leaving the place for good or in search for a place that is not contaminated…
