MERLIN
So I’ve been wondering how during literally every episode Arthur or Uther are almost killed and the only thing keeping them from dying is Merlin.
So before Merlin came to Camelot did it look the same? Like they were harmed/poisoned every other day? Like were they thinking that they are just very unlucky?
And when Merlin appeared in their lives and started saving them did they just assume that they got better at protecting themselves?
They would be like “ah yes the luck has came back to us we are so great” while Merlin is like “b i t c h”
MERLIN
The thing that makes me chuckle every time is I think there is a hierarchy among the knights like when they are riding Arthur should come first, then the best knights then less great and at the end additional people like servants. But no.
There is Arthur, Merlin and t h e n the knights. And Merlin doesn’t even go after the price, he rides along with him. Like their positions are equal.
And I wonder if the other knights ever asked Arthur about it. Like sir Leon maybe or other “hey I’m your greatest knight, shouldn’t I be at the front?”. I bet if they did they would ride at the end for the rest of their life.
I started watching season 2 of Merlin and what bugs me most is the nonexistent character development on behalf of Arthur. It’s like he forgets all he learnt from the previous episode or, even worse, from half an hour ago.
It’s like Gwen told him he shouldn’t treat servants like shit and he’s all like yea sure you’re right. And the second Merlin comes in Arthur treats him like shit. Like ???
Does he have a memory span of a goldfish or does he learn to treat Gwen with respect only cause he’s attracted to her (and so if he’s not attracted to Merlin he will continue to treat him badly) which is not an improvement of his character.
I started watching Merlin and I gotta tell you I love the dynamic between Merthur: it’s like ah yes the strong idiot and the magic idiot.
The energy between them is also exquisite and it reminds me of the energy between Patrochilles and *chef’s kiss*.

ok so king arthur is welsh & the oldest surviving texts about him are the welsh mabinogi which were written about “a country struggling to retain its independence” and it irks me Magnificently that the english ppl (the exact same ppl who took welsh independence away) claimed arthur as an englishman and a Great Conqueror Of People when in fact the ppl who created arthur most likely held him as a symbol of resistance to Precisely That.

Yes, a whole year late. Gosh. My sincerest apologies to the mod who made the mistake of entrusting me with this lol. And ofc to the winner who had to wait on me the whole time. It gave me more trouble than I expected, and I think I switched brushes like, three times during the process…. Anyway.
Even though I probably should’ve been nagged about it a bit, I nevertheless appreciate your patience. So thank you. I hope it’s at least a little bit worth the wait.
i’m sad so here’s some merthur ideas i think about a lot
- gwen taught merlin how to make flower crowns and so almost everyday merlin shows up with a flower crown and tries to put it on arthur’s head
- “it’s a crown!” “that is not a crown merlin, those are leaves in a circle”
- arthur complains at first but always surrenders eventually and puts them on.
he likes them- arthur has nightmares,,almost like morgana’s. he’s been through so much war and trauma and violence, how could he not
- so when merlin hears him tossing and turning, he opens the door and ever so carefully, sits on the bed, leaning against the bed frame. and almost as if arthur can sense that he’s there, the prince settles down immediately.
- merlin stays awake to watch over him
- merlin never got the cloak back that he let arthur use. so he just took one of arthur’s. arthur pretended not to notice.
- sometimes during formal meetings, arthur requests to have merlin in the room. he claims its simply to have a witness. gwen and morgana think differently
- both of them tend to go to gwen and morgana for advice about the other
- every morning, there’s fresh flowers in arthur’s room. arthur thinks they’re brought in by the castle staff, but’s it’s actually merlin
- “
where’s my flowers?” merlin remembers
Arthur: I would die for you
Merlin: I would die for you first
Gaius: (from across the room) NO ONE HERE IS DYING!
Gwaine: Having sex doesn’t mean you’re dating!
Merlin: Right! If it did, Arthur and I would be dating.
