Racism and physical attacks against Asian people have spread with the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020 in United States, more than 2,800 cases of assault against Asian people were registered. In moments as difficult as the ones we are living in, we must be firm in condemning racial hatred. We need more compassion, we need more empathy, we don’t need more hate.
El racismo y los ataques físicos contra las personas asiáticas y de ascendencia asiática se han propagado con la pandemia de COVID-19. Solamente en Estados Unidos durante 2020 se registraron más de 2,800 casos de agresión contra personas asiáticas. En tiempos tan difíciles como los que estamos viviendo debemos ser firmes en condenar el odio racial. Necesitamos más compresión, necesitamos más empatía, no necesitamos más odio.
Es difícil luchar por la democracia cuando te la arrebatan de la mano todos los días. Sin embargo hay quienes siguen creando espacios para la pluralidad. Por eso el trabajo de @sinmordaza en Venezuela me parece tan importante. “Un Mundo Sin Mordaza” promueve derechos humanos por medio del arte y la cultura como espacios de expresión para las personas en Venezuela.

In August the city of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, was devastated by major explosions, causing at least 181 deaths, 6000 injured, billions in property damage and leaving an estimated 300.000 people homeless. In its aftermath grief turned to widespread outrage with mass protests calling out the government’s corruption and dysfunction and demanding major political reforms.
@sourafilmfest, @iqmff, @lebanese.nl, @detweedejeugd and @lab_111 join hands to support Lebanon by celebrating its rich (cinema) culture with a selection of films, talks and food from the region.
