americasgreatoutdoors:

Always on the lookout for a snack, bald eagles often perch in trees or glide through the air near bodies of water. Large raptors, their wingspan can exceed 7 feet. With their regal white heads, bald eagles have been the national emblem of the United States since 1782 and a spiritual symbol for native people for far longer than that. The oldest recorded bald eagle lived to be 38 years old. Since they usually mate for life, that means eagle romances can last for decades. Photo by  Lisa Hupp, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

// The Eagle has always been revered as a powerful messenger to the Ojibwe people. I managed to capture my first encounter with a Migizii, days before I was given my Native name and clan. Asin-o-Quay, Migizii Doodam. Woman of the White rocks, Eagle Clan.

Day 12: Bald eagle.

Yeah another bird, but I really like the colours of this one. Still funny the name is bald eagle while it is not reeeaaally an eagle.

Today’s bird is this bald eagle from my local zoo!

If you don’t recognize the bird above, what the fuck? Where are you from? Have you heard of The Beatles? Do you know what baseball is? Why are you allowed to have an internet connection? But anyway, bald eagles are big fucking sea eagles that live in the United States and Canada and vacation in Mexico. Ben Franklin didn’t want bald eagles to be America’s #1 Bird because he thought they were, swear to god, “of bad moral character." Big talk from a dude whose main contribution to the Revolutionary War was banging French teenagers. I have the opposite problem with bald eagles, though. That GAZE, man. PIERCING. If a human looked at me with that hateful disapproval I’d go right home, try to do a pull up, and then curl up on the ground in the fetal position and somberly think of all the ways I’ve disappointed my parents.
