Australian Flat White is a way of preparing coffee. Flat white is made by pouring a microfoam (which is steamed milk from the bottom of the pitcher) over the coffee, and most often decorating it with well-known cappuccino art. Read more

Receptionist Safehouse, Auckland CBD

Drink pictured: Flat white ($4.5)

I have been to Receptionist Coffee’s little takeaway window on Lorne Street but this was my first time visiting their space on Little High Street. They serve Eighthirty Coffee and I really liked the “receptionist” stickers on their paper cups and their fake stacks of money!

Rumours Coffee, Auckland CBD

Drink pictured: Flat white ($5.7) and esor.

Visited the newly opened Rumours Coffee, near Chancery Square. They serve coffee from Society Coffee, and their espresso is a single origin, which is pretty rare, as most cafes use blends for their espresso! This gave it a much lighter flavour than a blend would have. The space is minimal and quite relaxing. They also do filter coffee, which I’d love to go back and try!

Atomic Coffee Roasters, Kingsland

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($5.7) and soy flat white ($6.4)

Some photos from Atomic Kingsland with their all-black decor and good coffee!

Mibo Bakery, Mount Eden

Drink pictured: Flat white ($5)

Finally got to visit Mibo, which is a sister to Benedict’s in Eden Terrace, which is another favourite of mine! They serve BeSpecialty Coffee which was delicious and I really liked the leafy exterior. They don’t have a lot of seating, a few inside and some more outside, but luckily when we were there, it was not raining and the outside seats were free. Would definitely go back for the delicious coffee and to try more pastries!

Semicolon Coffee, Auckland CBD

Drink pictured: Flat white ($5)

Visited the newly opened Semicolon Coffee on Fanshawe Street. They serve their own blend of coffee which was pretty good and I really liked the interior as well!

Chur Bae, Auckland CBD

Drink pictured: Flat white ($5)

Visited Chur Bae which opened about a month ago in City Works Depot. They serve Ozone Coffee, and are a pretty spacious cafe with indoor and outdoor seating.

Winona Forever, Parnell

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($4.7) and oat latte.

Some photos from Winona Forever in Parnell, which was packed when we arrived. They serve Coffee Supreme and their cabinet food always looks amazing!

Young George, Mt Albert

Drink pictured: Flat white ($5)

Visited Young George during the Easter weekend. They serve Atomic Coffee which was really good! It is a smaller cafe, with some inside seats and some more outside seats. All the seats were occupied when I arrived but luckily my friend already had a seat for us on the bench inside!

Knead on Benson, Remuera

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($5)

Visited Knead on Benson last week. It’s a medium sized neighbourhood cafe, serving Allpress Coffee, with both inside and outside seats. They are a bakery as well, though I didn’t get to try any of the baked goods this time. Also met this cute dog that was a cross between a golden retriever and a border collie!

Kompass Coffee, Auckland CBD

Drink pictured: Small flat white ($5)

Photos from that time I had a quick coffee at Kompass Coffee on Kitchener street before work! They serve The Vant Garde coffee, and my small flat white tasted a bit milky, but not bad! It’s a small cafe with inside and outside seats. I was sitting outside since the inside was pretty full, with a view of Albert Park and the Art Gallery!

Filly, Sylvia Park

Drink pictured: Flat white ($5)

I’d heard about Filly cafe a while ago, but I don’t go to Sylvia Park much so I didn’t get a chance to go until my friend asked to meet up there. They have indoors and outdoors seating, and they’ve got some unusual orange chairs (4th and 5th photos). They serve yummy Atomic coffee, and I really love their colourful interior!

Postal Service Cafe, Grey Lynn

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($4.5) and oat flat white ($5.5).

Some photos from the lovely Postal Service, serving Kōkako Coffee.

Better Me Espresso, Grey Lynn

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($4.8)

One of my recent cafes discoveries is Better Me Espresso in Grey Lynn. They serve Kōkako Coffee. It’s owned by two NZ latte art champions, and the coffee was so good that me and my friend both had two! It is a small cafe though, with a few seats inside and outside, so if you can’t get a seat, would still recommend getting a takeaway!

Vintage Industries Ltd., New Plymouth

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($5) and hot chocolate ($5).

The last place I had coffee at in New Plymouth was Vintage Industries, which is a cafe and vintage goods store in in the same place! They serve Ozone coffee, and only have takeaway cups available. They do have quite a few seats inside, and I would definitely recommend sitting in (if you can) or atleast taking a quick peek at all the vintage stuff in the store!

Monica’s Eatery, New Plymouth

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($5)

Back to the last couple of New Plymouth cafes, the first of which is Monica’s Eatery, which is right next to the Len Lye Centre/Brewster Gallery. They serve Ozone coffee, which was good. They have mostly indoor and some outdoor seating, and I especially liked the interior of the cafe!

Crumb, Grey Lynn

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($5) and long black ($4.5).

Food pictured: Bun from Scandibunz

Small pause in my New Plymouth cafe posts for a post about Crumb in Auckland. Had yummy Flight Coffee there yesterday. It’s a cosy little cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, and I really like the mugs that they serve their coffee in. Sadly, their last day open is this Sunday (20th Feb ‘22), so do stop by this weekend if you haven’t been there before!

Bleached Coffee & Company, New Plymouth

Drinks pictured: Flat white ($4.4), hot chocolate ($4.8).

The second coffee stop in New Plymouth was Bleached Coffee & Company, serving Allpress Coffee. The cafe space is combined with a store. I really liked the yellow colour scheme and all the plants near the seats (in the second photo)!

Also I really struggle to take flatlays and took the first photo in the series with the help and encouragement of my partner who has no interest in coffee or cafe photography, but wanted to help me anyway.
