Basically, what if Carmen Sandiego became a fashion icon. I used Rene Gruau as a main inspiration for this triptych. I’m quite satisfied with the way they came out, especially since typography is such a weakness for me. The originals are all 18x11 too, which is perfect for posters!
Carmen Sandiego’s first showed up 35 years ago today in WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SANDIEGO? for the Apple II.
But she wasn’t yet wearing her iconic red outfit (she wore a black hat and fur coat), and she didn’t yet have her memorable circular logo.
Carmen’s crest went through more iterations than you probably realized. As part of my ongoing research on the history of the series, I’ve tried to assemble a definitive history of how the logo evolved, with as much historical information as I’ve been able to gather.

Netflix has a new Bandersnatch-style interactive adventure. But where that film was about making a fictional menu-driven adventure, the new one is based on one of the first real life menu-driven adventures!

One day I was Google image searching for the Where On Earth logo and discovered the highest quality you can find is a blurry and washed out capture from the almost-VHS-quality DVD release.
Even the DVD packaging is actually blurry art with retypeset text. Somehow even the rights owners didn’t have a high quality copy of this amazing Bill Sienkiewicz illustrated logo.
So when I spotted an oversized magazine ad on EBay, I bought it just to get a good scan. This is now the highest quality version of this logo anywhere on the internet. Enjoy.
The classic Carmen Sandiego look hits a very particular intersection of fashion goals – the long double-breasted coat with a collar higher than God and a broad-brimmed hat tipped low over the face all in flaming crimson simultaneously says “I’m the most stylish person in the room” and “I do not wish to be perceived”.
I took part in the @redcracklevalentines exchange this year and this is my gift for @graycracklerulz ! They asked for some kind of AU, so I did Carmen and Grey as flower fairies!
Carmen is Roses obviously lol, and for Crackle I looked up the national flower of Australia which is called the Golden Wattle! It’s got these cute little yellow buds!
Here it is! Dash Haber is such a fun character to draw and his and Zacks dynamic was super fun in their episode! I had a blast animating Carmen Sandiego character again after such a long time!
After many months I’m finally working on another Carmen Sandiego animation! It isn’t done yet (though it should be in the next couple days) but I thought I’d share one of the finished frames because I put far too much effort into the lighting lol!
I love how they are blushing and the fluff written all over this.
I wanted something with black sheep and crackle, and this is what it turned out to be. I know that they thought of each other as siblings, buuuut they have figured it out sooner . I wanted to draw Cleo, she seemed so fun to draw (and she is), and practice drawing. I don’t usually color it in, but I wanted to try. (I didn’t do the skin color cause the colored pencils that I had would’ve worked, but I think it turned out ok.) I might make it digital later

I love how they meet, the development is so cute, with angst ofc. The sibling like relationship in the beginning just genuinely makes my happy because that’s the only time Carmen genuinely laughs with Gray and her friends. And she’s just a goofy kiddo.
