Parents brought their primary school-age kids to play with models of dying Armenian soldiers, helmets from actual dead Armenian soldiers, and even practice strangling an Armenian themselves.

What the FUCK sort of bullshit logic is that?
Those are children. They are not PS5s. They are not a commodity in demand with short supply.
Adoption isn’t buying a fucking piece of furniture for your house. Adoption is providing a loving home and family to a child without one.
I mean no offense to prospective adoptive parents here, but I think a world where they would need to wait years to adopt, because every child in government care has been adopted/fostered out to loving homes, would be a pretty damn good world.
This is a ghoulish disregard for the humanity of children. That is blatant commodification of children. It’s utterly disgusting.
And it shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that this has nothing to do with “saving children”.

Let’s not forget how there is a private and public system of adoption in the US as well.
A lot of the private spaces are run by exclusive xtian sects and will not (and now they don’t based on another Supreme Court ruling about a year ago) let people of other religions/sexualities adopt those children.
And tbqh the system is notoriously BAD. We aren’t even discussing the foster system yet and the things those kids go through (can you imagine, understand even, what it’s like to be a POC in this system? The sheer abuse/trauma these kids undergo)
So the justices writing this in their opinion is not only completely out of touch but at its very best disingenuous.

I’m an adoptee and all of this true. It’s incredibly disgusting. We just barely had people understanding the kids are going through trauma. That it was detrimental to these kids most of the time. Now they want to violate human rights and treat us just like commodities again. It’s disgusting and horrific. No one should be forced to carry a pregnancy they don’t want to. And children in crisis are not family planning. We are not here to build your family.

I read this info on Twitter and went into a despair cycle last night. But now that I’ve pulled up on that particular nosedive, I want to say here too:
Adoption is NOT an inherently good or even neutral thing. The ways that the trauma of multiple adoptions in and out of my nuclear family have reverberated through us all are indescribable.
People don’t talk about this enough. Some of us are starting to. Adoption can be beautiful. Not all parts of it are. Adoption IS traumatic by default. It’s not an acceptable systemic alternative to abortion access. It’s just fucking NOT.
