I wish to let you know that I’m doing SKETCH REQUESTSfor every 5 dollar (or more) Patron on Patreon, every 3 months. :) It would mean each sketch would be a 15$ priced commission. PRETTY CHEAP.
If I reach the first goal the TUTORIALS WILL BE BACK, and those seemed to be very popular back in 2014 when I was doing them.

Each card starts with a dog and their story. This one is CoCo, our beloved Queen of Cups!
The Queen of Cups balances a connection between the land and sea, representing thoughts and feelings…and this fits CoCo so well. She was actually a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, and later survived another huge flood, by finding a small point of dry land to stay on.
The Queen is a card to turn to when times are tough and CoCo exemplifies that. She was found on the street right during a time of grieving, after her human had lost her grandmother. For weeks, her human had said she was going to find a black and white, scruffy dog…and there CoCo was. Pure fate drew them together. That connection highlights the strong intuitive power of this card, too.

Card of the Week: Four of Wands
This card is a beautiful one, as it represents community coming together. It’s a family card (perfect, since these three pups are all family!) and one that inspires meaningful connection.
This week, look for spaces where you can engage with your community. That could be online or in person, and it can be any community you’re a part of. Since 2020, lockdown has kept many of us apart…and you’re likely craving reconnection. Make special time this week to cultivate it!

Meet Flash, the amazing service dog who modeled for the King of Cups!
Flash is a mostly owner-trained service dog, meaning that he was actually trained by the disabled person who he’s partnered with. He came all the way from Germany to help his human, and they worked together to become the amazing team they are today.
Flash is aptly named, too. He absolutely adores chasing lights! He’ll go completely bonkers for anything flashy.
Being a service dog, Flash definitely represents the kindness and compassion the King of Cups brings. He happily helps his human with lots of tasks, sharing his brilliance and wisdom as he does.

The 7 of Pentacles: a card all about effortful endeavors…which this project truly has been! Now that we’re fully funded on Kickstarter, there’s a lot more joy and relief too–hence the three super happy pups surrounding the 7 of Pentacles.
The Barkana has been a beautiful journey. 5 years of near-daily painting, 78 full watercolor illustrations, and over 90 animals featured on the cards. I’ve heard so many beautiful dog stories, worked with amazing people in this community, and painted my heart out to bring this deck to life.
I’m humbled and grateful for all the support from this community. You’re all amazing!

This Kickstarter will likely be the ✨only✨ print run The Barkana will ever have—making it a limited edition deck!
(Who knows, maybe these decks will be worth a fortune someday! )
My plan is to print about 750-1000 decks, and about 600 have already been reserved by backers, wholesalers, and people who’s dogs are painted on the cards. Some will be held aside specifically for people in the UK to purchase on Etsy.
As a small and disabled creator, it feels right to do this one special printing. Re-prints are super challenging, after all. So, if you want a deck, be sure to pledge in our Kickstarter now~ (Link here)
Also, if you want a second deck, you can always modify your pledge by manually adding $55! That’ll reserve you a second deck.
The Barkana has been a labor of love and bringing the deck to life is going to be an amazing thing. We’re getting close to our goal too—less than $2K to go!

Every pup in this deck is regal, bold, and carries the card’s meaning with their personality (“pawsonality”?)! Since every card is based off a real dog, I took a lot of time to get to know their story and energy through the images their human shared. That’s what inspired the vibrant illustrations you can now see.
This deck is so inherently collaborative, as it really was a partnership between every pup, their humans, traditional tarot symbols, and myself as an artist!

This project is one with a mission: raising awareness and funds for service dogs. Each of the 78-cards is based off a real dog’s story, many of them ESAs or service dogs. It’s all vibrant watercolor and will come in a nice magnetic close box.
