Do you like podcasts? Do you like Greek mythology, but wish they could have a little more women in them (and a good deal less misogyny)? Have you ever thought about a genre and thought, wow wouldn’t that be cool if it was 100% queerer, and in space?

I’ve got a podcast for you!

Khôra Podcast is a fiction podcast/audio drama about all the women in Greek mythology who deserved so, so much better. It’s also set in a dieslepunk galaxy far far away, where technology is magic, and most everything is controlled by the sometimes benevolent, sometimes totally evil Olympus Corp. Season one will follow some of the women from the tale of Jason and the golden fleece, as they try to return a missing fleece to Colchis. It’s got robots, it’s got sentient space ships, and most importantly, it’s All About The Ladies!

More info, like production updates, behind the scenes stuff, and an eventual release date, will be coming in the future! Follow this blog to stay updated!

Hello strange and unusual family! If you’re one of the many people joining tumblr for the first time, coming back, or getting into fiction podcasts for the first time, we’ve got a show we think you might like!

The Bright Sessions is a science fiction podcast that follows a group of therapy patients. But these are not your typical patients - each has a unique supernatural ability. The show documents their struggles and discoveries as well as the motivations of their mysterious therapist, Dr. Bright. The show is complete, with seven seasons and three books, and has a cast of interesting characters, found family feels, and swoon-worthy ships.

There’s a whole world of Atypicals to jump into, and you can start right now! And keep reading to see the *chef’s kiss* ideal way to consume all the different content (aka in in-universe timeline order)

The original podcast ran from 2015-2018 as a single, serialized story over four seasons. Then, in 2018, 10 standalone bonus episodes were produced as a fifth season. In partnership with Luminary, two spin-offs were produced: first, The AM Archives in 2019, and then The College Tapes in 2020. Both are now available on all podcast apps and can be listened to as stand alone series, but should be listened to after listening to the original show. Within the events of the universe, this is the correct order of story progression:

  • A Neon Darkness (book)
  • The Bright Sessions Season 1 (original podcast)
  • The Bright Sessions Season 2 (original podcast)
  • The Infinite Noise (book)
  • The Bright Sessions Season 3 (original podcast)
  • The Bright Sessions Season 4 (original podcast)
  • Some Faraway Place (book)
  • The Bright Sessions Season 5 (bonus episodes)
  • The Bright Sessions Season 6 (The AM Archives)
  • The Bright Sessions Season 7 (The College Tapes)

Have you heard? The AM Archives - the spin-off that was previously exclusive to Luminary - is now available anywhere you get your podcasts, right in the original TBS feed!

We’re currently releasing the mini series, Order & Chaos, and next Wednesday, the first episode of The College Tapes - a spin-off all about Caleb and Adam as seniors in college - drops!

As requested from our Hi Nay discord server, I’ve compiled some of the songs I was listening that served as inspiration for characters, events and arcs in Hi Nay, in no particular order.

.You can listen to the playlist here.

More details below:

Bottom of the River byDelta Rae ~ “theme song” for Episode 20 - Siga, aka the Campfire Episode. This gave me a camping vibe with the added bonus of feeling like I wanted to add a scene where they sang around a campfire. Never ended up putting that into the episode, but the vibes for this are immaculate.

Rule #21 - Momento Mori byFish In A Birdcage ~ I recently got fully obsessed with some of the songs by Fish In A Birdcage, a fantastic alternative indie band, many of whose songs you will find on this playlist. Momento Mori in particular was inspired by the Elders, specifically Giuliano Bartalotti, The Benefactor, and George Langford, all because of their proximity to death.

EsmeraldabyAdriel Genet ~ Basically the theme song of the entire puppetmaster arc, specifically The Puppetmaster / The Doctor / Drosselmeyer. I was suprised that this was a lesser known song, it sounds like something that would have really blown up. Glad to hype it up here, it has the PERFECT vibe for this specific part of the story, especially in that it makes me imagine the ballet-loving Drosselmeyer dancing gracefully to the musical interlude.

Rule #4 - Fish in a Birdcage byFish In A Birdcage~ The song the band apparently named itself after (or vice versa), Fish In A Birdcage is my favourite song as of 2022, and tops my On Repeat playlist. The song is truly perfect. The lyrics of the song specifically focus on the story of Mary-Anne Weekes, whose full story has yet to be told. In the story, so far, she is known as the “Good Elder” who created Good Foci, and was CJ’s lover. She was also the only member of the Ordo who was non-white (or non-white passing). Her locket protects Laura in Episode 3.

We Forgot We Were Human byDirt Poor Robbins ~ An incredibly catchy song that I just enjoyed listening to during recent arcs, this particular song seems to illustrate the Elders quite nicely. No specific arc - this is just the Elders and their motivations, at least as we know them currently.

The Haunted PhonographbyThoushaltnot, Seeming ~ No character in particular. I just thought this song was a fun one that matched the general vibe of Hi Nay, and the Foci being cursed objects. Somewhat connected to Mary-Anne for reasons that will later be revealed. May include a cursed phonograph in a future episode. Who knows?

The Dismemberment Song byBlue Kid ~ The primary inspiration for the Cannibal pair of episodes - Episode 18 - Katay, and Episode 19 - Lamon. Her name, by the way, is Minerva The Cannibal.

Sun Goes Down byDavid Jordan ~ Just how I imagine the theme song for a Hi Nay TV show would be. It’s poppy, but it also has the beat that reminds me of traditional dances in the Philippines. Also the lyrics feel like they would fit for a TV series about creepy things happening in a city.

Rule #7 - Angel Tango byFish In A Birdcage ~ The lesson here is to listen to Fish In A Birdcage. Anyway, this song was inspired by the sort of thematic dance between The Puppetmaster and The Benefactor. It’s a little bit of both of their characters, in some ways.

Rule #9 - Child Of The Stars byFish In A Birdcage ~ A song about Ashvin, the fake Guru Mahadev. He has a compelling history and I want to write more about him, though it doesn’t fit in the current plot. He’s been one of my favourite characters concept-wise, and I want to dedicate more to him as a character.

I’ll be adding more songs to this playlist, maybe moving songs around. Hope you all enjoy!

Some emoji teasers for you:

Reblog this post/reply like The Heart of Ether is real.

Update

We’re deeply sorry for the radio silence on our end since the hiatus. This past month, we’ve been focusing on school, work, and mental health, and after some semi-major life events happened, priorities had to be shifted around.

But! We will be coming back strong this December once our schedules open up! I really don’t know how I’ll make it up to y'all for how patient you’ve been, but I’ll certainly try. This show started as something for fun, and we hope it will become fun again after some rest. <3

The Heart of Ether is recruiting a new sound editor (specifically for soundscaping & finalizing episodes)! Unpaid, unless the circumstances change, which we cannot promise. Deadline to apply is Nov. 22nd. More info below!

To tie you all over during our hiatus, we put out our sixth bonus episode yesterday, “Bishop to D8!”

The agents play a game of chess.

The transcript can be found here.

Stay safe out there!

In case you haven’t already heard from our Twitter, The Heart of Ether will be going on a temporary hiatus—no more than six weeks. Circumstances beyond our control brewed a bit of a perfect storm. We need some time to catch our breaths and work ahead.

We’ll be trying to pump out plenty of bonus content for you all, though! Specifically, we’re going to work on getting more Patreon content out. We might even have fun little events on our socials or in the Discord server.

And, to make up for Episode 17’s delay, we have a new bonus episode! Our sixth bonus episode, “Bishop to D8,” is out now for $3 & above patrons, and will be out for everyone tomorrow, Friday the 22nd!

Your patience and understanding is invaluable. We can’t thank you enough. We’ll be back soon. <3
