but jieun-ah love can’t be controlled

so if i forgot every word i’ve ever learned i would still find a way to write about you.

if i forgot who you were i would write about the unexplained and unfillable space inside me.

i would still love you if you killed me.

i would touch you if your skin was made of poison for me and your bones made of fire.

i don’t know how to be anything else but yours, lee jieun.

so one day, whether you are 14, 28 or 65 you will stumble upon someone who will start a fire in you that cannot die.

however, the saddest, most awful truth you will ever come to find is they are not always with whom we spend our lives.

“So, where to?” Lily asked Omar as they reached his car. He opened the door for her and she slid in, slightly shocked at his chivalrous action. She murmured her thanks as he closed the door. He settled into the driver’s seat and looked over at her.

“I don’t know,” he said, laughing a moment. “Do you have any ideas?” She pondered his question. A sudden thought hit her.

“Umm…ok this might sound completely lame…but do you want to go to Coney Island?” She asked in a hopeful voice.

“Coney Island?” He asked in disbelief. Lily read his confusion as rejection and her face fell.

“F-Forget it,” she said quickly. “It’s stupid. We can figure something else out.” She looked away, suddenly unsure of herself. She felt Omar take her hand gently and squeeze.

“Hey,” he said quietly. She turned to look at him. “I don’t think it’s stupid. It sounds like fun. I haven’t been there in years.” He was pleased to see the light returning to her gorgeous eyes. “I have one condition though.” She looked at him expectantly. “Don’t talk me into anymore bad food today, alright?” He knew how tempting the treats along the boardwalk would be…and how hard it would be to say no to her. “I can’t completely wreck my diet today.”

“Deal,” she said with a beaming smile. The drive to Coney Island was fast, traffic being mild in the middle of the day. For hours the two of them dashed around like excited kids, playing the boardwalk games and hopping on the amusement park rides. Omar gave in and snagged a bite of Lily’s funnel cake—it was either that or lick the powdered sugar off her gorgeous lips. Omar knew he’d never laughed this much in his entire life. Being with Lily was fun. She made it so easy just to be him. He didn’t have to impress her or act tough. She was happy just to be with Omar, the real Omar. It was liberating, and he didn’t want it to end.

“Nah uh,” Lily said, shaking her head and pulling against his hand. He was trying to get her to go on the Cyclone.

“C’mon, Lily,” he pleaded, “I went on that crazy ass Ferris wheel with you…besides, you have to ride the Cyclone when you come to Coney Island. It’s almost a requirement.”

“No way,” she dug her heels in. “I don’t do roller coasters.” He pulled her into his arms and leaned down to whisper in her ear.

“I promise I’ll hold on to you the whole time, baby,” he pleaded once more. He pulled back to look into her eyes. “Please?” She couldn’t resist his puppy dog eyes.

“Fine,” she sighed. “But you owe me for this!”

“You got it, sweetheart,” he cheered, wrapping his arm around her waist and guiding her to the ride. Omar held true to his word and held her the entire ride. He couldn’t help but love the way she clung to him, her face buried in his chest. She let out the most adorable little squeals when they would come up over a hill and raise off their seats, gripping him even tighter. He hugged her close, and kissed the top of her head.

“You’re doing great, baby,” he cooed in her ear. “It’s almost over. You’re being such a good girl for me.” He felt her body shiver at his words. He pulled her tighter to his body. A few moments later the ride was over and they were walking away hand in hand.

“That wasn’t so bad, was it?” He asked her, his voice hopeful.

“Not my favorite, but you made it much better,” she said with a smile. He smiled back and pulled her into his side, letting go of her hand to wrap his arm around her shoulders.

“Glad I could help,” he said, kissing the top of her head.

“Step right up, folks!” They heard a man shouting. There was a small crowd gathering around a machine. They made their way over to see what the fuss was about. “Try your luck. See if you can beat the high score! If you can, you win the BIG prize!” The man pointed to a big stuffed bear.

“Aww that’s cute,” Lily said looking at the prize. “It looks just like one my mom gave me when I was little.” Omar knew immediately he would do anything to win it for her. Then he noticed the game. It was a boxing game. The player would punch a speed bag as hard as they could, and it would give them a number score based off how hard they punched. Omar’s grin was huge. He was gonna win that bear for his girl.

“Do we have any takers?” The man asked the crowd. A few guys stepped forward and paid, then threw their punches. One of them was pretty pathetic. The other two were decent, but still nowhere near the high score. Omar looked. The high score was 648. He could beat that. He stepped up.

“I got this,” he told the man, handing him a $5 bill.

“Oh ho!” The man called out. “We got a cocky one here, ladies and gentleman. Let’s see what he can do.” Omar stepped up and got into his stance. He glanced over his shoulder to give Lily a cocky grin. She rolled her eyes and laughed. He threw his punch and the count soared to 1000…the highest the machine could go. The crowd sat in stunned silence.

“Holy shit!” The guy running the game said. “Well, we have a new high score!” He took the bear down and handed it to Omar, who turned to give it to Lily.

“Here you go, baby girl,” he said when she took the bear. She smiled and leaned up to kiss him on the cheek.

“Thanks, Omar,” she said quietly. The crowd was going nuts asking him how he did that.

“Howdid you do that?” The worker asked him.

“You’re looking at the Armenian Avenger,” Lily said loudly and with pride. “The next Super Middleweight Champion of the World!” Omar felt his heart burst with affection for her in that moment. He wrapped his arms around her and picked her up into a tight hug, burying his face in her neck. She hugged him back just as fiercely. There were wolf whistles and cheers from the crowd. Neither one of them noticed a few people in the crowd had captured the entire thing on video.

“Let’s get outta here,” he said against her neck. “Too many people.” She nodded as they broke apart and hurried back to his car.

Love Will Find a Way

Love Will Find a Way

Love Will Find a Way

By Liz Callaway and Gene Miller

  • Elriel Month Day 2: Disney remains to hit with the Elriel songs. The best Forbidden-love song by Disney if there ever was one.

Elriel songs pt. 26 ✨

PREMISE: Every January 1st, at the stroke of midnight, one very special child is born. The child, known as a Year, is the living embodiment of the new year. It has superhuman strength, ages at an advanced rate, and when the ball drops on December 31st, its life must end so that the passage of time can continue and a new year can begin. Most Years accept their fate. But sometimes, a Year doesn’t want to end. Sometimes a Year tries to escape. When this happens, special police officers—REVELERS—are tasked with finding and eliminating the renegade Year. This is not called execution. It is called “Ringing in the New Year.”

CHARACTERS: Derrick Ricard is the best Reveler in North America, but he’s beginning to have doubts about his work. Though he continues to track down Years, he can’t help but think there might be a different, more humane way to do things. Like all Revelers, Ricard can be identified by his special infrared glasses that are shaped like the designation of his target, and also by his tactical party hat.
1992, a beautiful and deadly Year, is the one Year that got away. She and Ricard fell in love, and when it came time for him to Ring in the New Year, he couldn’t bring himself to do it (S01.E23 – “A Kiss at Midnight”). 1992 has been in hiding ever since. Ricard would be a dead man if anyone ever found out that he got so close to a Year, and also that it’s technically been 1992 for the last 24 years.

NOTABLE EPISODE: 2009, a particularly crafty Year, is playing mind games with Ricard. Under increasing psychological pressure, Ricard starts to question the very nature of his own existence: Could it be that he’s been a Year the entire time, and his memories are just implants? The episode ends on an ambiguous note: 2009 is killed before he can answer any of Ricard’s questions, and Ricard begins to suspect that the top brass is trying to keep him from the truth (S06.E22 – “Tears in Confetti”).

CATCHPHRASE: “I’m not dropping the ball, I’m dropping you” / “For Auld Lang Syne.”

TRIVIA/MISCELLANY: The show spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on champagne for each episode.

In the aftermath, she had no answer, save for the knowledge that a part of her had wilted and that if she did this enough, the rest of her would wither away. - Persephone
