I haven’t posted my poems in a bit, so here’s one I just wrote for Ghostwriter. If you weren’t around when I began this project a little over a month ago, Ghostwriter is going to be a published collection of my poetry walking through my various emotions over the course of a few months. Because I personally deal with severe depression, anxiety, and a few other types of mental health struggles like OCD and paranoia, I wanted to convey both my hopes and fears through my poetry in hopes of spreading awareness of mental health as well as to give hope to those who, like me, struggle on a daily basis to crawl out from under the dark cloud hovering overhead.

This poem is about how hard it is sometimes to respond to friends when you are having a low period, and especially how difficult it can be to actually go out and do something. Obviously, as it is covid, I’m not out running around in the first place. However, even just answering messages is still sometimes avoided without me realizing I’m doing it. Usually, by the time I do notice, I’m already a couple days late and become afraid that my friends might not be happy because I didn’t respond right away. Logically, I know that’s ridiculous, but the thoughts are still there.

Because I know a lot of other people feel the same way about this kind of thing, I wrote this poem to convey that you aren’t alone, and for those of you who feel like you’re being ghosted, don’t give up. Because these ghosts can still be summoned, sometimes you just have to cut through the static first.

I love you all, and I hope everyone has a wonderful day today and everyday after. Let’s finish out this horrible year strong and work together to make 2021 a happier, safer time.

Blessed be!

I noticed that the blackdale snippet was in quotation marks, meaning it was part of someone’s dialogue

Why Jesse needed to send Lucie sth at all? Does it mean he’s so far away from her? Does it mean it’s the only way they can communicate?Does it mean sth terrible happened and they couldn’t be together? Does it—

misseffie:

I really like fictional couples that actually enjoy spending time with each other. It seems like such a simple, mundane thing. But, often, I see fictional couples who are completely enamored and dramatic and willing to die for each other, which isfine. But like… do they enjoy hanging out? Do they have private jokes and would they be friends even if they weren’t in love? It feels like such a basic thing, but it’s something that I actually don’t see that often. And it feels so refreshing and honest compared to these over-dramatic romeo and juliet-esque romances. Just two people who become good friends and becausethey enjoy each other’s presence so much it grows into a strong attraction. It feels more real and tangible than two attractive people meeting and “falling in love at first sight” - like, of course, you fell in love at first sight! You’re both supermodels! Sorry, can’t relate.

honestly, I’m grateful to Cassandra for delivering that blackdale snippet, it was the motivation I needed to draw these two again.

Hope y’all like it!

*James, trying to plan with the Merry Thieves how to tell Cordelia he loves her for real in Chain of Thorns*

James: How about this: throw a corpse, dressed like me, off the roof

Thomas: *puts his head in his hands*

Christopher: *nodding along thoughtfully*

Lucie: *sitting there with her arms crossed*

Jesse, who just met these people and is filling in while Matthew is in Paris:Um-

James: It hits the ground and the head pops off. This leads to me saying the line: “I lost my head when I fell in love with you.”

Thomas:*grimacing*

Lucie: *sarcastically* Well that is guaranteed to work.

James: And it’s easy enough to get a corpse! We just go to the silent city and ask Uncle Jem.

Jesse, looking at the camera like he’s Jim on The Office:

Can you jam with the console cowboys in cyberspace?

I think it’s funny that the tlh fandom tends to forget that Lucie really brought Jesse flowers after he sacrificed himself for James??? That was so cute and sweet??

It is worth noting right off the bat that this is the one book in the main Fear Street series that is confirmed to have been ghostwritten. I’m no forensic expert in writing styles, but the narrative voice definitely felt different than the plethora of Stine’s books that I have read. All of that aside, The Thrill Club was a mixed bag. There were a few too many characters for how short the book was; which makes me think it would have been a better fit for the Super Chiller spin-offs. The best parts of it reminded me of Christopher Pike’s stronger books. There was an interesting idea at its core, but it was ultimately bogged down by its very dated notions around race. The othering of indigenous cultures in American media is hardly a rare phenomenon, and this was especially true in 1994. Hell, that was pretty much the entire basis of the beloved Indiana Jones franchise. The Thrill Club might not be as egregious as Temple of Doom, but it was still a bad look and it did not age well. Even worse was the book’s treatment of the first black character to grace the cover of a Fear Street book. I’ll save the spoilers for below the jump, but I doubt it will surprise anyone who pays even the tiniest bit of attention to these things. All of this clouded what was an otherwise creepy concept with a complex villain. With more pages to tell the story and a few small but very significant changes, The Thrill Club could have been a really good book.

Score:2.5
