The Chen Foundation is focused on helping economically-challenged youth fulfill their dreams of obtaining higher education. The scholarship is renewable, allowing recipients to receive an additional $2,000 award for the Fall quarter/semester of their 2nd year of college if they maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and active service in the community.

  • High school seniors who reside in California
  • Plan to attend a California State University (CSU-system) or California Community College as a 1st year student in the Fall of 2015 (if selected, must submit college acceptance letter for verification)
  • Have a minimum cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0
  • Have a household income at or below California State Low Income Level (must be able to show 2013 or 2014 tax return should applicant be selected for award.)
  • The scholarship is open to ALL MAJORS and there is NO ETHNICITY REQUIREMENT

Apparently the underclassmen have been unwinding from the stress of 2020 existence with a bit of light humor. I overheard a couple of them in the health screening line setting up a betting pool on which student will get COVID first, since “statistically speaking, at least one person here is going to get it.”

The Houses As Years In High School

Hufflepuff: Sophmore Year - The in-between year. This is when to make new friends and enjoy the high school experience before the harder work starts.

Ravenclaw:Freshman Year - New place, new classes, new people, you are curious about how it all works. Time to begin the four years of learning and opportunity ahead of you.

Gryffindor:Senior Year - Last year of high school, ready to get out to explore the real world, time to travel and live it up before college starts.

Slytherin:Junior Year - College applications, SAT/ACT testing, scholarships, you have to be pretty determined and ambitious to make it through this year.
