Laura told me that this photo (…) “was taken a day before their father went to war. He came back after 5 years and lived til 91. My granny Seija is the little girl on her father’s left. They died when I was little (the great grandparents, Aino and Arvo), but I remember them and they were kind and sweet people who had worked hard for their whole life ”

She also told that her grandpa(second on the right) and his friends are so well dressed because this photo was taken after church day. I believe that was at sunday. Here in Portugal. Mostly in villages, Sunday it’s a church day. I remember of seeing my ancestors hanging out after church, so this photo is very interesting and familiar to me. He as well lost his hand but no matter what he worked hard. He passed away in 2017 at the age of 82. He is and always will be my inspiration to me. I’ve always been curious of this image of him; a young man at the beginning of world war 2. The innocence in those eyes that were lost after the war finished.
