My favorite characters in each Ghibli movie i’ve seen so far

So, in Dresden, East Germany, they made a “Howl’s Moving Castle” stageplay. I never got the chance to go watch it, and after seeing their own trailer for it, I am very very glad about this. Just ignoring the….. awful acting…. nO

None of this. None. Michael (a “dark boy”) is a thirtysomething red-haired(? Can you call that hair?) Weirdo. Calcifer is just weird and on a bike sometimes. Sophie is a 20-year-old 90-year-old (like they didn’t even try) and howl looks and acts like a fucking molester, when he’s canonically just the sweetest cinnamon role?! And what is with the random, bad, freddie mercury performance? What?!

I cannot believe this is the kind of culture my people produce. We are supposed to be good at this shit, no?! ‍♂️

I am in a constant state of viewing two versions of myself:

One says that it’s fine. The movie is its own thing and there is absolutely nothing fucking wrong with the faCT THAT, TO THIS DAY, AFTER HAVING LISTENED TO THE AUDIOBOOK 20+ TIMES AND KNOWING ABOUT THE ACTUAL BOOK’S CONTENTS FOR 2 MONTHS, I HAVE NOT RECIEVED A SINGLE ACCURATE AUDIO-VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF OF HOWL JENKINS PENDRAGON AND HIS BEAUTIFUL FUCKING WORLD OF MAGIC THAT EXISTS RIGHT ALONGSIDE FUCKING WALES!

The other version of me agrees with the first one, but less aggressively.

Turns out ghibli robbed me of a lot! I just rewatched that movie and the wikipedia description of it as a “loose” adaptation is putting it mildly!

I love that film and I love that Howl.

But I love the og Howl!

Please, all I want now is a true audio-visual adaption of the book! And I want Kristin Atherton to play Howl, holy fuck!

I like Calcifer a lot, and his bromance with Howl is perfect, two beautiful drama queens together.

im sure they actually came up with really clever spells but it would be hilarious if howl and suliman just outsourced first aid kits from our world. like all the orders they got from the king to equip their soldiers with healing spells they were just like ‘cool give us a few days’ and went and bought bulk orders of stuff from a pharmacy in wales

Smiley Howl just to remember to the world he’s the most fabulous drama King of Ingary and Galles. And he knows.

I think ur first studio ghibli movie determines part of ur personality. Mine was my neighbor totoro, and my little brother’s was ponyo
