LIVE

To the fearless leaders,

The mad women,

The women who remind us “Never be so kind you forget to be clever. Never be so clever you forget to be kind,”

The women fighting for what we’ve worked for all these years,

The women who are no one’s exception,

Happy International Women’s Day!

Happy International Women’s Day

1 out of 4 women experience pregnancy loss.

1% experience recurrent miscarriages.

I fall under these. I’ve made artworks for each losses.

Many women suffer in silence from such a traumatic event.

You are not alone. Break the stigma.

Spread the word.

Remember us.

Pregnancy loss isn’t “oversharing”. We’ve lost a part of us and family. Such a traumatic event in our lives that other people could share about their loved ones dying.

Our babies died, too. They’re valid to us.

Let’s stop shaming women for sharing their stories.

To start off our #WomensHistoryMonth highlights, we’re honored to showcase Dr. Leslie Caromile (@lacaromile), an assistant professor at @UConn studying prostate cancer!

Dr. Caromile is of Native American and Italian descent and received her PhD in pathology and mechanisms of disease at the University of Washington.

Her lab studies a protein called prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA), how it participates in prostate tumor growth, and how mutations in PSMA contribute to health disparities.

Dr. Caromile also believes in giving back to one’s community, and as such devotes herself to mentoring students from historically excluded groups in the biomedical sciences.

Dr. Caromile says, “Science is best when the rich diversity of our perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences flourish. […] It is essential that all members of the community feel welcome, … all individuals are respected, and all voices are heard.” Thank you, Dr. Caromile!

Today we celebrate women and girls from all walks of life… And yes, that includes our trans sisters!

To be a woman is to be a wonder, but it’s no wonder that we are so strong and full of possibilities. Happy International Women’s Day!

I learned that the original artwork for this was by @sketchy02. Everybody go follow Sarah’s incredible work!“
