Jade, Artemis, and Stephanie’s father’s were working together on a heist. This is how they met. Jade and Artemis we’re in charge of babysitting Stephanie while their parents were busy. They kept in contact after that and when Stephanie joined young justice Artemis realized who she was immeaditely and they talked for a long time. Artemis then told Jade who stopped by to say hi
I was thinking about Jade (as you do) and I think that if she ever leaves Cheshire behind and starts life as a civillian she would be a chemist (of course) and should work in Big Pharma.
Her ethical dilema would be so interesting and complex. What she’s doing is legal and gets her good money, more than enough to have a comfortable life and provide for Lian. No superhero is going to come through her window and arrest her for her work. And yet… she hates it. She thought she could handdle it, she used to kill people for money and she was able to handdle it, this should be easy in comparison, rigth? But she’s still hurting people. Not directly. She’s shielded from seeing the harm and from being held responsible for it. She’s not even taking the decissions, she’s not technicallydoing anything wrong.
And that’s why it feels worse. Because when she took an unsavory job she could do something about it. She took that decission, she chose to let that happen or to do something to mitigate the harm. Now she’s a cog in a machine, and she’s an accomplice in the trauma and pain of thousands of people, of millions of people. People who can’t pay for their medication. People who get prescribed with opiates when it’s not needed and fall to adiction. People who die because the medication was bad but paying for reparations is cheaper than pulling it off the shelves.
She’s still killing people, even when she’s not holding the gun. She thought that was behind her, but maybe she was never meant to anything else. Maybe, after suffering so much, the only thing she’s meant to be is the person harming others.
Cheshire meant freedom. Meant to be her own woman and not letting anyone else use her. Without her, Jade is helpless again and she doesn’t know how to fix it, doesn’t know if she can fix it.
