So I watched “Klaus” last night.

My GOSH what a fantastic movie!  I mean… everything about it was so, SO GOOD.  It was gorgeous and funny and heartfelt, and it made me ugly-cry at the end.  Watch it, if you can!

I LOVED that it was 2D and yet it really looked so lush, so 3D in parts.  Hats off to that entire animation team.  I was also completely blown away by the inclusion of the Sámi, and the fact that they had them just… speaking their real language the whole time, without subtitles.  Very cool.

Also, I loved the reindeer.  And, another wonderful JK Simmons role, too. :)

Anyway, here’s a “warm-up” that got a bit away from me.

(Another little bit of tribute to J.K. Simmons in honor of his birthday yesterday.  And thanks to him for voicing another wonderful role this past year. :)

Again, J.K. Simmons’ birthday was yesterday (I keep missing it)!  And I happened to watch a couple of reaction-videos to people watching “Klaus” last night, so… here this is again.  I should do more from this film.  I was reminded again how absolutely gorgeous it is.  And his acting job is wonderful in it.

it’s april and the snow is melting, time to say goodbye to winter! so here’s alva (also known as: the best character in the movie) and the kids going on a hike to the mountains. jesper is… helping. and everyone’s wearing warmer clothes and actual hats

I saw Frozen 2 today, and it was lovely and very pretty to look at. I thought it’d be cool to see what a shot with Elsa could look like in a 2D animation style like ‘Klaus’. (This is not a remade shot from the film, so no spoilers, don’t worry)

So I watched Klaus, and guess who’s my favorite character-

Sadly my step-by-step is chaotic, I don’t really do construction lines, and I go straight with the flow, and that’s why my art is so inconsistent and all my Mogens look different

This is how I usually proceed ☝️☝️ (eyes➡eyebrows➡nose➡mouth➡face shape➡hair)

For Mogens, I do half-lidded eyes, thick eyebrows, “broken” nose, smug smile, long chin face with pointy cheekbones, glorious sideburns and pointy strands behind the head. (More details under the cut)

Of course, the shape of the face changes according to the angle, for example, if he is side view: the chin goes beyond the upper lip.

If the mouth is opened, the chin goes lower and I draw him the cute fucked up teeth.
