infinitarisus:

Me after seeing Far From Home’s mid-credits scene and realizing Marvel’s gonna make me wait two damn years for a third installment:

Okay uh…scratch that. Make that three years. They’re not filming until winter 2021. So 2022 it is, fellas.

*Finally logging back into tumblr having successfully avoid Spider-Man No Way Home spoilers*

I…I just need to talk?

Okay, first of all, hi - been a while! I finally saw the film yesterday and I just need to say:

THANK YOU MARVEL FOR SHOWING ANDREW GARFIELDS SPIDER-MAN THE RESPECT HE DESERVES!!!

image

I was so so gutted when his movies got shelved. Each Peter Parker has been brilliant but I just loved Andrew. He deserved all those wonderful moments in this film - Tobey’s Peter telling him he is amazing, not lame (!), saving MJ (tears were shed), just everything about him being back made me so freakin’ happy.

The nostalgia of seeing Tobey again was also so so brilliant. That villain era is my favourite and I was so happy to see Alfred Molina back (I met him once, SUPER LOVELY GUY), especially having Doc Oc be good which he really always was. Willem Dafoe bringing that haunting Green Goblin energy as well, I felt like a kid again.

And let’s just take a moment for May being the Ben of this universe, she delivered *that* line then died and I was like…damn, we had an origin trilogy? Let’s give our sweet MCU Peter Parker a break now please.

You hypocrite! (Stephen Strange) - (2022)

I’m not giving you any contextfor this art as some of you haven’t watched the movie yet…even if I’m sure that you didn’t miss this very frightening iteration of Dr. Strange that first appeared in the trailer two months ago. Enjoy ♥

revenge-of-the-shit:

Holy shit. Just saw Shang-Chi and it is IT. Before getting into the Chinese cultural parts of it, I’d like to note that it had a solid plot and wonderfully developed characters. The worldbuilding and CGI and the relationship building was absolutely phenomenal and I was absolutely hooked. The fight choreography was THE best choreography I’ve ever seen in the entirety of the MCU and the cinematography is amazing.

Now, onto the Chinese cultural references.

My god. I’ve never felt so seen. As a Chinese woman living in a western diaspora I’ve genuinely never seen something that so genuinely felt right and that truly felt like it connected to me personally. There were so many little details that I could connect to that made me feel emotional because I’ve never had any media that connected to me this way. It was so well done and it was so obviously done by people who lived through it.

(minor) Spoilers ahead! Just small details about the Chinese Diaspora experience in the movie.

Some little details that stood out to me included:

  • The food! All the food shown on screen was Chinese food - be it homemade food or dim sum platters - and those were exactly the types of plates that I grew up eating.
  • When Shang-Chi took off his shoes to go into Katy’s house and she was wearing slippers inside the house
  • When he was talking through the little Chinatown area and there were the fruit cardboard boxes outside the Chinese CL groceries and the white sketchy dim sum sign with English on top of the Chinese
  • Katy struggling with her Chinese as a diaspora kid because she’s only a heritage speaker and her first language is english
  • When Katy was struggling to pronounce Shang-Chi’s Chinese name asldhhdjskala I felt that
  • Katy sticking to her English name despite also having a Chinese name bc she’s a diaspora kid and is used to using the English name
  • Every single one of the magical creatures inside Ta Lo were inspired by Chinese mythology.
  • THE DRAGON IS A PROPER CHINESE DRAGON
  • Katy’s parents comparing her to others and asking her to “get a better job” with her H. B. from Berkeley (I felt that)
  • The whole thing about familial expectations and relationships in Chinese families?? Bro. I felt that. Holy shit.
  • So. Much. Mandarin. I can’t explain how happy I am to hear that language. Many western movies have a tendency to mainly use English with an accent but this movie used a LOT of (accurate!) mando and it makes me so happy
  • The architecture?? The art?? Phenomenal. Amazing. So accurate.
  • The shrine to the mother and the other deceased looks EXACTLY like every single Chinese cemetery I’ve been to, down to the photos and the incense and the fruits and all the people paying tribute to it.
  • The martial arts?? Oh my god. So good. I recognize it. Having trained in it and having watched multiple family members practice varying Chinese martial arts over the years I can’t express how fucking happy I was to see arts such as Tai Chi and Wing Chun and Wushu on screen. I could recognize it. The forms, the movements - I can’t explain how, but it felt right. It felt familiar. It felt so wonderfully connected to me.

There’s probably more but it’s late at night so more to come later, maybe. I’m going to just bask in the fact that this was a fantastic movie for chinese representation and I felt so seen. I went to see it with several other Chinese friends and. We came away so happy. We felt seen. We felt heard. I can’t express how much this meant to us.

Representation matters.

there I was just chilling about thinking on the illuminati scene in multiverse of madness and what Wanda did, and then I realized something — 838 Reed Richards mentioned having kids, which means there is a Franklin Richards in that universe whose father was just murdered

oh no

if 838 Franklin Richards is anywhere close to the level of power that he’s shown to have in the comics, then our 616 Wanda and possibly our 616 Earth is about to become the target of a very powerfulandvery angry reality warping being who’s been known to outclass quite a few omega level mutants during his comics existence

I mean this is the same person whom as a kid created a baby universe!

and as an adult has taken out Celestials and made Galactus his herald without breaking that much sweat!!

our Wanda has just given him a very legitimate reason to use those powers in very destructive ways!!

so I’m guessing a young 838 Franklin Richards going into Earth 616 to wreck shit and get revenge might just be marvel’s way to jumpstart the Secret Wars arc???

if this happens tho, well Earth 616, it was nice knowing ya, I hope Franklin be gentle we’re fucked

i think the funniest moment of my doctor strange viewing experience is when mordo said black bolt’s full name “blackagar boltagon”, some guy in my theater can be heard admist the silence going “wtf??” in total incredulous disbelief

SPOILERS FOR MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS!!

some folks are so pressed about Wanda bodying the illuminati and it’s just making me laugh bc some of y’all really need to understand context????

like the illuminati didn’t get shredded bc they weren’t powerful enough, they got shredded bc they were arrogant as fuck and underestimated her

“but Reed is so smart he wouldn’t just give away a solution to the enemy” — yeah Reed is fucking smart, but he’s also just fucking arrogant enough to show off to someone he didn’t think was a threat — he thought he could just scare her away

if the illuminati had gotten their heads out of their asses and listened to Strange or taken his comments about Wanda seriously, they would actually be alive, they could have properly strategized on how to take Wanda down, hell, Black Bolt probably would have been able to take her out with his voice if he had the element of surprise — but they didn’t, they were convinced that Strange was the threat and they were arrogant and smug enough to believe that if they think something is right then it must be right

now to be fair their Wanda probably wasn’t a threat and likely never exhibited our Wanda’s level of abilities so in their experience, they just didn’t deem her to be an issue for them

but that’s how you get killed, arrogance and overconfidence and not listening to the concerns of others about the threats you’re facing because you think you already know the answers

and let’s be honest here, arrogance and that know-it-all attitude literally IS a central core of the very concept of the illuminati so this isn’t even any of these characters acting out of character, that’s just how the illuminati acts, I mean look at the scenes, they sat up there in their high and mighty chairs, their attitudes were generally dismissive and smug and seemingly think they were above it all

they could have been ready for Wanda, but their arrogance blinded them and got them killed

this isn’t Marvel “doing dirty” on these versions of the characters, this is just what happens when you’re overconfident and don’t properly prepare

Loki: I am burdened with glorious purpose.

Thanos: I am inevitable.

Agatha Harkness: It’s adorable how little you two matter compared to me.

I believe now is the right time to add a new priest to my collection I got this request quite a while ago, and I’m happy to finally draw it

how great is it that the marvel/spider-man fandom predicted mj’s personality so well?? i felt like i already knew the character because of all the stuff ive seen made from fans, it made me so happy.

i love my awkward activist so much.

trying to process the teaser of doctor strange 2 as a post credit scene of spiderman no way home
yeah it hurts

nyptagypta:

Y'all better have the same energy with may calamawy’s acting when she shifted between Tawaret and layla like you did with oscar Isaac. SHE IS SO FUCKING AMAZING I AM IN LOVE.
