#mosasaurus

LIVE

Here’s the penultimate Jurassic June entry, Jurassic World’s Mosasaurus.

I wasn’t able to find a lot of complete baby mosasaur remains online to base this one off of, so I made the silhouette a bit closer to a real Mosasaurus, along with incorporating some juvenile crocodile and komodo dragon. Including having a stand-out color scheme. Baby komodo dragons/monitor lizards (a close relative to ol Mosa) are seriously pretty. Enjoy!

Hybrid 2: Genetic Boogaloo

Another “designed by Tiwtter” hybrid, this time pulling only from the Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchises. This turned out a lot more… disturbing, I guess, than the last.

Enjoy!

The final batch of drawings for Mermay! Thank you all so, so much for the response. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought this series to be so well liked and successful on somany of my social media platforms.

I felt like for the final batch, I wanted to explore how paleontologyinfluenced merfolk would look like, and how they influence ‘modern’ merfolk. (Prehistoric Planet probably influenced my decision haha)

These are the lads and lasses that help found the formation for merfolk culture, from first-of-the-firsts like the Anomalocaris and the Tiktaalik to true giants of the sea, like Shastasaurus, Livyatan and Megalodon. The Megalodon is Kara’s personal idol. (Kara’s the great white shark featured in all previous batches, here she’s teaching kids how cool history is!)

The most important figure here in Merfolk history is actually the Mosasaurus, AKA The Ocean Lord. He was a Barbarian King who hated landlubbers and was the sworn nemesis of “The Tyrant King”. He’s revered by modern Merfolk for his combination of strength, cunning, battle prowess and magnetic personality.

However, a tablet written during his time paints a different picture of the Ocean Lord: One of an arrogant, bloodthirsty ruler whose conquering ways and obsessive hatred of the landlubbers did more harm long term than anyone could have imagined.

A shout out to @miuzes , who motivated and helped me with tips all throughout the way. Another shout out @florence-is-gay/@legendary-disaster , who made fan art of Kara!. I’m STILL freaking out! Never would I expect I’d get fan art for this! :D

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I’m so invested in all these, I love your designs and cool ideas so I just had to show my appreciation <3

And I appreciate it lots in return :D

9.5" Mosasaur (Prognathodon) Jaw Section - Morocco

This is a 9.5" mosasaur (Prognathodon) jaw section from near Khouribga Morocco. It is in very nice condition still has four of it’s original teeth still in place. One tooth has a repair near the tip and there are a few repairs to the bone with gap fills but there has been no compositing done to this piece.

Massive, 25" Mosasaur (Prognathodon) Jaw - With Huge Bite Mark!

This is a HUGE, jaw section of a very large Mosasaur (Prognathodon) from the phosphate deposits of Morocco. The awe inspiring fossil measures 25" in length and the largest teeth have crowns over 2 ½" long. It’s very nicely prepared in the US with NO COMPOSITING and very little repair and restoration (part of one tooth).

There are a few features that make this a very special fossil other than being a massive Mosasaur jaw. One, four unerupted teeth are still present and and viewable in their sockets on the back side of the piece. Secondly, there is a big BITE MARK viewable on the from side of the jaw. The teeth marks in the bite mark are over 4" apart, meaning the Mosasaur that attacked this one was a real monster!
